My Freedom

‘I’m sad,” you say
Mocking poetry.

“Useless,” you say
Egging me on.

“Waste of time” you say,
Trying to make me stop.

I left you behind for freedom.

Writing…
It’s the only freedom I know.

Writing is my tires on the road
With destination unknown.

Writing is my escape
When I feel trapped inside myself.

My direction
When I feel lost.

My foundation
When life is unsteady.

How could I possibly explain what writing means to me?
How could I explain that my thoughts are poetry
without rhyme or reason?
Writing is the song in my head,
That doesn’t have music or an audience.

How can I let myself put my heart onto paper,
And let others read my innermost thoughts?

Do I have the courage to bear my soul to the world?
Who would read it if I wrote it?

I'm reading it, and am grateful for your bravery. Really enjoyed this, and especially this line: "Writing is the song in my head"

Well done.

Best

who cares anything about anyone else, would never mock poetry or anything that brings comfort to their partner. My wife is not as interested in poetry as some, but she listens patiently to my words and what has been in my head, before I've poured it out on the page. She especially listens to the words I write for her on special occasions, such as birthdays and anniversaries.
Because she knows that it matters to me, that she should know how I feel; about her and things that matter in our life. I read your work and I feel the emotion that you put into the lines you write. I want to know how and what you feel. This is the poet's world, and we are poets. I am very glad that you have found Neo. and our family. Keep writing and I will keep reading. ~ Geezer.

This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

Thank you for your feedback, Geezer. My husband is the same way. While he doesn't "get" poetry like we do, he does respect the fact that it is a part of my life and something I very much enjoy. He always reads the ones I share with him and graces me with his feedback as well. I wrote this poem after a particularly difficult breakup many, many years ago. I found it in an old notebook and decided to proofread and post it. I feel that my particular style of writing (although abstract) has improved since I wrote this originally.

I am also very grateful to have found Neopoet, and I appreciate all of the feedback and constructive criticism I receive.

I like your poetry a lot. I admire your honesty and courage and I agree with your sentiments about writing and poetry. You’re style is unique and direct which serves the internal nature of the poem.

Tim

Thank you for your feedback, Tim. While I did write this many years ago, long before I even dreamed of sharing my work, I decided to proofread it and edit it as I felt that it deserved a place in my collection. I have since gotten past the fear of sharing my poems and (I hope) my work has improved since I wrote this, all those years ago.
