Memories

He won’t have time to miss you, ‘cause he sees you everywhere...
Like that lady he passed on the street, she had your colour hair...
Or the lady at the crosswalk just the other day,
She stopped her car abruptly and gave him the right of way...

The woman that he met in the supermarket line,
She asked how he was doing and he told her he was fine...
She had a pleasant smile and she looked a lot like you,
As he walked away he turned around and she was looking too...

The lady at the gallery, she was showing off her art,
He told her it was beautiful and he spoke right from the heart...
She said it’s just a hobby, “A thing I like to do,”
Then she told him that she kinda likes writing poems too...

The waitress at the restaurant, she was run right off her feet,
She handed him a menu and she led him to his seat...
He could tell by the way she walked, her feet were getting sore,
He said you’re very busy and she replied, “Yes, that’s for sure!”

Or the woman he saw at the bank only yesterday,
He hadn’t seen such pretty eyes since the day you passed away...
Your memory will be with him throughout the coming years,
As he soldiers without you through a sad valley of tears...

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet's computer artificial intelligence:

The poem "Memories" effectively employs a narrative style to depict the protagonist's experience of seeing the memory of a lost loved one in the women he encounters in his daily life. The repeated structure of each stanza, which introduces a new woman who reminds the protagonist of the loved one, contributes to a sense of continuity and a lingering presence of the loved one in his life.

However, the poem could benefit from more varied and specific descriptions of the women and their interactions with the protagonist. Currently, the women are largely interchangeable, with few distinguishing characteristics. By providing more unique details about each woman and their interactions with the protagonist, the poem could offer a richer and more nuanced exploration of how the protagonist sees the memory of his loved one in different contexts and individuals.

The poem's language is generally clear and straightforward, which makes the narrative accessible to readers. However, the language could be more evocative and poetic. For example, instead of stating directly that the protagonist sees the memory of his loved one in the women he encounters, the poem could show this through more subtle and suggestive language and imagery.

The poem's ending, which reveals that the loved one has passed away, provides a poignant conclusion to the narrative. However, the phrase "a sad valley of tears" is somewhat clichéd and could be replaced with a more original and evocative image to convey the protagonist's grief.

Lastly, the poem's rhythm and rhyme scheme are generally consistent, which gives the poem a pleasing musicality. However, there are a few lines that disrupt the rhythm, such as "She said it’s just a hobby, 'A thing I like to do,'". Adjusting these lines to fit the rhythm could improve the poem's flow.

Lovely. I think what I love about this the most, is the conversation between the author and the subject. I can't tell if the narrator is actually speaking for someone else, or himself, and that feels extra tender. I wonder - any way to not use "lady" and "woman" as often? Especially in the case of S1:L2,L3, so close together. Perhaps some other pleasant synonym - maybe something similar to "angel at the crosswalk?" Dunno, just a suggestion. Beautiful thoughts.
Thank you!

Lavender in her comment, that you need to rethink some of the lines, but for the most part, this is a great piece that resonates
with the memories of someone who has been blessed to have a love of his life. ~ Geezer.
