You Saved Me (Meeting My Superhero Contest)

I remember how
you were there
when he left.

"I just feel so alone" I cried to you.

"This is the last night you'll spend alone"

You stayed on the phone with me
until I fell asleep that night,
and every night thereafter.

You didn't know it then
and you never will,
but you saved my life.

Ohhh,
so very poignant! I have several questions I am dying to ask you. But I will respect your privacy and not ask them...

I remember how
you were there *who is "you"? and who is he?
when he left.

"I just feel so alone" I cried to you.

"This is the last night you'll spend alone" (who is saying this kindness?)

You didn't know it then
and you never will,
but you saved my life.

why will this person never know?

I liked the poem but have these questions.
*hugs, Cat

The one who was there was my dearest friend Jason. He was there when my ex-husband left and also the one who said "This is the last night you'll spend alone".

He'll never know because I'll never tell him.

He wasn't there just as a shoulder to cry on.
I was drinking every day trying to swallow the pain, and he stopped me.
I was crying myself to sleep every night, and he would call and keep me company until we were both in tears from laughing.
I was drowning, and he pulled me back to shore.

He had no intentions of being in a relationship by being there for me. He was simply there. Come hell or high water, he's always been there, and I'm so grateful and blessed to have such a true friend in my life.

So this is the story of the one who saved my life.
