Stars

You introduced me to all the stars I've ever seen
You kept my company and my nerves at bay
Looking up let a little boy forget the fear he felt
At the nighttime noises emanating up from the yard below us
Sometimes you shared your own fears
And although I felt the energy in those moments
It would be years before I understood
My fear wasn't from noises in the night alone
And yours was more like mine than I could have known
You deserved more. Maybe we both did.
From the world beyond that balcony
But it's hard to think of those nights we shared
as anything other than a blessing
And the days that followed. The man I am.
What I've yet to become. The guide you were
in those nights and in my life
Looking up still lets me forget
I'm not afraid now
I am forever in your company kept
under a sky of every star I've ever met

You gave me goose bumps. That's awesome. I love poetry in response to poetry. Your energy time and words mean so much to me. Thank you for reading.

this has such profound depth...layers and layers of deeply profound depth. I cannot imagine the heart it would not touch... it has a quiet urgency to it... I am extremely affected. it reminds me of a Marc Cohn Song. Perhaps "Girl Of Mysterious Sorrow"?

I do love Cohn though it's been years since I have heard him I think. I can't listen to the song now but I will tomorrow and I just read the lyrics. What a writer he is. Thank you for the thought. I am curious to hear the song now. The greatest satisfaction I have come across as writer is knowing that I can capture and convey somehow without spilling too much along the way this energetic emotion that I experience. That it can dwell in words and be conveyed and shared is one of the greatest gifts and one of the most stirring magics this world has in it. This poem started life in prosaic form. It was a gift I wrote rather quickly as it flowed well. It was a birthday gift for my mom. And this poem is about the nights we went out and looked at the stars together. My dad never joined us. Always just inside in his chair with a stack of papers working. That made her quite sad and she let that slip sometimes but we had each other. This is it if you care to see it as prose (and while you are there feel free to marvel at the chicken scratch handwriting of a grown man that clearly uses keyboard more than a pen). https://god.likes.fans/Stars Thank you for reading. Thank you for feeling and reaffirming the power in my favorite thing.

of a poem that was writing, and I had to go back and finish it after reading this! Something tells me that this poem is the result of something similar happening to you. Thank you for the push to finish mine. It means so much that you will never know, unless...
I didn't find anything that you should attempt to change, because, I think that it would change the timbre of the poem. ~ Geezer.
