Remember

Remember
Written by Kelly Ann Wilson

I see your once-golden hair
Losing colour
I see the lines
Growing deeper on your face

I hear the smoke alarm go off
When the stove gets left on
I hear the same tale told
Three times that day

I guess your perfume
Smells of days long gone by now
And there’s no crisp lilies you planted
In this new place where you live

But I can still taste the fresh rhubarb
We ate straight out of the garden
And my favourite macaroni and cheese
You made me as a kid

I feel the fear as you reach for words
You once knew
I feel the grief that things
Don’t stay the same forever

But you can put it all down now
The story of the life you made
It’s okay if you forget
I’ll remember

Thank you for sharing this bittersweet piece.
It rings so true and all I can say that it strongly resonates and I really relate to every word.

The last few lines are my favorite:
they almost bring tears to my eyes

"But you can put it all down now
The story of the life you made
It’s okay if you forget
I’ll remember"

Thank you for sharing
