BUM

I know this is two poems in one day but I'll be gone tomorrow and unable to submit. Hope ya'll don't think I'm stretching guidelines too much........scribbler

Well, there sits another bum
he's probably lazy, even dumb
I bet he pisses on the walk
and mumbles when he tries to talk

I wish they all would leave this town
seeing them just brings me down
pushing 'round their grocery cart
filled with crap they think is art

It got really cold last night
you'd think he'd find warmth out of sight
in a shelter or at the " Y '
what's the matter with this guy?

He hasn't moved, not one twitch
no scratching of some vermin's itch
ought to get up and move around
panhandle closer to down town

Look at all those ragged clothes
Hmm...I see no breath mist from his nose
it's time that he is made to budge
think I'll give him a little nudge

And nudge again, why no reaction ?
a curse would give me satisfaction
now I give a hard rough shove
feeling little loss of love

He's got some money in his cup

Mister....Why won't you get up....................?

belated compassion is a tough burden...hopefully we all learn soon, the lost souls out there are truely lost, unable to manoeuvre this world...but the laws, as I understand them, don't allow, anymore, for unconsensual internment if there is no danger posed to others. Out reach programs are the only hope of preventing these types of tragedies...and universal compassion and understanding.
I like this write, though sad. Point well taken.
( I am no better in the compassion department than anyone else. My realizations came from working for a homeless shelter for three years in a large American city. That experience changed my point of view about "street people").

Al

ALL people have value. This latest economic downturn has lead to an increase in homeless people who are so through no fault of their own. I thank you for your read and comment..............scribbler

How sad to think there are so many homeless people - an age old problem that never seems to get solved.

Actions speak louder then words - a little from each of us would go along way.

Thanx for sharing Stan. Enjoy the holiday.

Love Mand xxxxxxxxxx

The number of homeless seems to be growing which is a shame in such a rich country . May you and your loved ones also have a wonderful holiday season...............stan

In the spirit of humour and truth... I happened to watch this at my son's Sunday.

And there is a wonderful film about being homeless, talent, mental illness, and love...called the SOLOIST, former Julliard student, Nathaniel Ayers.

Where Barry and I live, we are surrounded by many homeless, always with their hand out. There are places we walk where clothes, food and plastic bags are left during the day. It is winter here and I pray they have a warm place to sleep.

Anywho, we've had some hilarious exchanges, some tears, and some wtf experiences. We probably all know where the money goes, but there by the grace of God, go I.

Have a great day off, tomorrow, dear Stan.

As recently as 3 years ago few homeless were to be seen in the small cities and towns near here. Now they appear to be at every major intersection. Thank you Wall street and partisan politicians................scribbler
