Tell You

Tell You
Written by Kelly Ann Wilson

I never got to go to Portugal
The next place on my list
So, book that flight
And get on the jet plane

I never got to realize the career
I could have built for myself
And seen what I was truly capable of
So, apply for that job you think
Is out of your league

I never made it to my first day of classes
Or to walk across the stage to graduate
So, live so big and make some memories
In that college town

I never got to know more about my family
Where we came from and our history
So, sit down and hear the stories
From your relatives who are getting older

I never got to find her
The one who was supposed to be my wife
So, be patient with your partner
And when you can, choose gentle and kind

I never got to see my grandson
Take over the family business
I passed down to his Dad before him
So, pick the grandkids up
To go for some ice cream

I never got to see her
Past the age of just 14
So, show your daughters all of the ways
You believe in them

I never got to meet him
My new baby brother
So, share your toys
And let yours play with you

I never got to chase my dream
Or even figure out what that was
So, hold onto it for dear life
If you ever get your shot

I never got to find peace
And heal my weary heart
So, I hope you will find a way
A way to love yourself

I never got to grow up
I’ll be 3 years old forever
So, do extraordinary things
With your chance to grow old

We never got enough time
We had to leave that place too soon
To go somewhere else

And these are all of our stories
We wish that we could tell you now

of a child is never easy. We think about the things that they may have chosen to do with the life they missed out on. We made plans for the time we would have spent with them and the things that we might have done together. Unfortunately, that will never be. I think that we sometimes do that so that we will be sure that we will never forget. That we will never forget them?
How could I suggest such a thing? I think that we often have guilt feelings about feeling good sometimes, like we should never feel good about anything again. But we will, and we should, that is what they would want for us. You have written a beautiful poem about this child and let that be a method of never forgetting. Excellent! ~ Geezer.
