Challenge. Memories of Grandmother

Granny was a widow, Gramps died in 45,
So off she went to the USA, a greyhound she did ride,
Through wide open spaces she'd never seen the like
Till at last she came to Cali' and there she parked her bike.

She cleaned and scrubbed in a hospital ward,
Cedars of Lebanon was its name
There she met many film stars
She'd only seen on the silver screen.

She loved the states, made many friends
Went back and forth o'er the years.
When home she had a little flat
But her heart was there 'twas clear.

For company she had a cat,
Tommy Tucker was his name
He had a whole ear missing
And in one leg was quite lame.

She wrote about her travels
In a way that few could touch.
I still have most of what she wrote
From Childhood on, so much.

She left aged 87
For Australia to sail,
To spend her final years in warmth
From the Gold Coast she would hail.

There she had a boyfriend, Fred,
He was a little older.
Together they sat sit in quiet bliss,
Her head upon his shoulder.

Dear Gran I miss your cooking so,
Your gravy sat and wobbled,
Your spuds were just like cannon balls
They hit the floor and bobbled.

Last few words:
My grandmother was a remarkably resilient lady. I could have written much, much more, and maybe I will. This is just a flavour of her.

Hello, Alex,
Sounds like she was a remarkable woman, and what a great poem! A mixture of sweet and spicy memories. I really enjoyed all of this, but that last stanza could be a limerick on its own. Fond memories!
