still was the night
still is the night
no sounds of rain
or soft landing flakes
not one tweeting bird
no bunnies dash with haste
i couldn’t hear a mouse
i couldn’t see my own face
in the stillness of the night
not one disturbance
with the exception of i
though i lay awake
resting in my own hide
a growing belly and a chest ever so tight
we must not disturb
the still of the night
still was the night
where knitting needles lay
a project i’ll return to
when the hummingbirds sing
for now; shut the light
i’ve finished writing
i’ll tuck my mind tightly
into the stillness of the night

Still Was The Night
Hello, Leo,
Very much feels like hibernating for winter, drawing everything inward and shutting out distractions of all sort. Perhaps hibernating from writing for a while and simply pondering the stillness and peace. Very seasonal and going with the pattern of nature.
Sweet rest!

Very great analysis Lavender!
Very great analysis Lavender! I was inspired by stillness this winter break and wrote about how it felt to observe it!

Dear Leo,
I love these lines:
we must not disturb
the still of the night
this poem has calming abilities, so peaceful...I seem to hibernate in my family room in my easy chair across from the fireplace, with the lighting set low...
*hugs, Cat
