Hi folks. Just a reminder that today is the last day when entries for this month's contests will be accepted.......stan

Aesthetics of Sunku

Recently in one of Neopoet forums we discussed a fissibility and rationale of creating a new poetic form, Sunku. We have talked about the structure of Sunku.
Poets here have created a number of astonishing examples as well as asked questions about what is beyond structure of Sunku.
Here are my thoughts on the matter.

FEBRUARY CONTEST

Talk about a universal theme!. This month we're gonna write poems about or referring to astronomy or astronomical events. Check out the "contest " tab to get the parameters then let your imagination float among the stars.

January contest winner

The contest winner for January is Raj. For his 2 versions of "Turning The Pages". I hope you will all join me in saluting him for fearlessly posting his poem in more than one form........stan

Turning the Pages (January Contest)

While setting the calendar on the mantle
the past fades ever so slowly
I clutch hard on memories
till they too recede like low tide
leaving behind
pebbles and shells
scattered along the shores
some smooth some frayed
like memoirs etched
on pages of my diary
to be shelved

Muses

Poets here keep saying that they have lost their Muses can't see where they can go, or is it just an excuse to have a break?
This is my interpretation of the nine classic muses, though I always rely on my own that is imagination and I can't seem to find a reference to this one here..
Though if I had to choose one, I think "Polyhymnia" would be in first place..

The Nine Muses.

Calliope

A long story to write of you,
An Epic will that do
On many tablets as in days of old
This is how your story is told.

Mary Oliver A Poetry Handbook

I just finished reading Mary Oliver’s A Poetry Handbook. I absolutely love the book.
What she thinks about the nature of poetry composing process,
“Who knows anyway what it is, that wild, silky part of ourselves without which no poem can live?”

Her practical considerations about the craft, such as

“reliable rhythms can invite, or can dissuade. A meaningful rhythm will invite. A meaningless rhythm will dissuade.“
