Stone Garden

At first you were a bird, flying through the trees
Looking for the words to say to me
But I had felt that fear growing between us
So it’s been more than a year, still spaced by trust
And among all of those roses you laid
I was the tall fortress surrounding you

And then you were a stranger
From love to threatening danger
Then you became a tree
Stuck inside of me
Your branches grew like ivy all around
And in you I would grow uncontrollably
You became a home to me

And now you are a flower
On the edge of winter
Your petals fell and now you are weed
With thorns all among you
And then I was lost
In a fog of amazement
How could you change everything you believed?

And now you are a stone, a memory I own
One of many in a pile all around me
A garden of memories, I will lock away.

I'm wesley. Good to meet you.
I'm not a fan of free verse, but an elegant use of meter in this poem made it a pleasant read for me. Some of the similes are out there (I mean this in a good way) and borderline original (meaning that although I've read something like them before, I've not come across anything quite like them).
You've been a member for a year. How come I never had the opportunity to read your work?

I like this idea
a beautiful constructed wall
with no gate no entry or locked
put to use all those stones

(I used to work with block masons
as a labourer Hard hard work
in all the elements.. A decent kind
of hell and way to make a living
other then writing poetry which for
me is a hobby)

enjoyed your work and style
