FIRESIDE CONFESSION

FIRESIDE CONFESSION

You know, my friend, there is a tale I must tell
After you have heard it all, you will take a view
It’ll affect the way you think of me, that is true
All of us have paths to choose, some go to Hell

We were talking business, many years ago in fact
With constant disagreements about this and that
You may even recall it, and consider it as a spat
Yet to my deepest shame, it was honesty I lacked

I’d said all our hard earned money had run out
But it was not any situation that you recognised
Yet had a secret plan for recovery that I devised
Our joint enterprise, over and done, no doubt

Since then we’ve each made our own way apart
I know that financially, you may be feeling sore
And now by the fire, we’ve met up once more
This money should help, at least as a new start

I invested what had remained of our limited cash
Let the business go, as it continued to be a drain
I did not know if you ever would trust me again
But stocks and bonds did well, here’s your stash

Over these years, there has been pain, I guess
Perhaps an odd thought or two about the other
As for me, I have always seen you as a brother
Now we’ve met again, it was timely to confess
