24 July

LIke a rockslide, tiny cracks at first,
then fissures. a slight rumbling and then...

A glance ignored, a call not answered.
Surprised life slides by,
reflected in a window,
or seen for a moment,
a woman lost in thought,
until the lights change and she's gone.

Lorikeets chatter outside
where my favourite gum tree is dying,
dying so slowly, I didn't notice
until a friend pointed it out.

My drawings of it like selfies.

I didn't get the last line, I had to read it over a couple of times; but then...
I supposed that in drawing the tree so often, and feeling so very close with it, it could actually feel like a selfie. I really connected with this latest from you. I love the lines about surprised life sliding by. I often feel that way, surprised at life sliding away, without my notice, even though I have been watching intently. The focus was just on the wrong place. This piece has a great pace and self-evident proof. ~ Geezer.
