Como um marinheiro /Portuguese>English

Como um marinheiro

como marinheiro
vagando no mar
perdi o meu Norte
seguindo
onde quer que fujam
os ventos
longe do lar.

fui procurar
os meus horizontes
de sonhos e esperanças…
jamais os vi
tão perto
emfrente de mim

LIKE A SAILOR
Like a sailor wandering
at sea
I’ve lost my north star
and fly with the wind
wherever it takes me.
I’ve searched for my horizons
of hopes and dreams
never to see
they were never far
from me.

I came before the Lord and saw him not.
The light of God was darkness unto me.
Within my heart and mind was only thought
that blinded so, my spirit could not see.
Upon my knees I prayed he might reveal
the majesty and truth I had been told
would crest me with a balm that chance might heal.
But faith had never come to me so bold
to settle on my shoulders as a dove.
And so I stretched my hands upon the ground
to seek the harder his alleged love,
but more the hollowness within me found

Bane

I'm talking about
conspiracy theorists
dumpster diving
connoisseurs of rot
sniffing out foulness
to circulate the www.

wanna-be reconstructionists
of a jig-sawed world
their tiny little fingers
puzzling in fury
as if animated by the gods of indignation
and rightous self-promotion

fools

(I wanted to say "fucking assholes", but what good would that do)

Prisoner

A pair of wide eyes with nothing
to look at.
You ache for the gentle stroke
of the promising light.
Chin turned toward what promised
to save you.

A pair of limp arms, aimless and savage.
You're taken away.
Naked and confused. Sounds you'll never
understand. Fascinated.
A million hands crawl over your
helpless skin.

You carry me each day

.

In a dream of night before me rose
I walked along an endless shore;
moist sand glowed a silvery pink,
danced to lights in the waning sun;
its length moving, curved around
dotted stars in the form of a heart.

I peered ahead and looked behind,
shifted my gaze from side to side;
waiting to catch a glimpse of you
and fall within your gaze as you
engaged my eyes in an embrace,
but only feel the sighing wind.

Spaced out

Today your mind is
Hovering in a new place
That we can't get to

FLASH OF DAYS

I have seen the stoney fields
grow into forests of dark pines
then cut clear for lumber's yields
becoming tangled brush and vines.
This is something I have seen.

I've watched as two lanes became four
and box stores sprang like spring mushrooms
as country quiet turned into roars
of cars rushing toward their dooms.
I've watched asphalt supplant the green.

NOVICE

No poem leaves my desk today,
no words written, no thoughts on life,
a silence, like the snow falling in my head,
a softened fall.

All white the sheet of paper, blank and sour
it scowls at me,
I'm pure it seems to say,
do you now dare to use my surface for your gain,
abuse me with your name.

How dare you touch my pristine light,
to smudge a sentence,
soil my only dream
to stay completely clean.

Decrepit

Wanted:

a place to fit my craggy face
ornery corners
and slumpy chair

a windowless house
without stares
to embrace
my unbecoming

minute strands of joy

I watch
as life starts to leave
me behind

Each day
unfolds its neverending
glory, little by little
youth is another creature
ravenous its hunger
consumes everything

The minute joys
encapsulated in each day
should be savoured
taken in small bites
and rolled around your mouth

Life is passing me by
but I sit here holding
ribbons of life
stroking them through
my hands
each beautiful strand
Is a moment of joy ....
