Elizabeth

My grandmother is alive
in black and white, perpetual life
in holy photographs that have

slipped through hands,
and years,
and brief visits back in time -

a breeze resting on her porch,
a white apron on her clothesline,
an aged hand dancing with her fountain
pen, playing with my name.

Her dark eyes sometimes spoke
of her passing melancholy.
Yet, like a sequence of soft echoes,
her voice showed little sadness.

I am planted between the world
of my childhood, the world of
my grandmother's grace,
and this colorful life I now share
with grandchildren of my own.

If there is a forever, she is there.

Very nice poem.effective portrayal of “ Grandmother”
Liked it very much.

I was very blessed - I knew it as a child, even more so now as a grandmother, myself.
Thank you for reading!

so very fortunate to have known my grandmother. Not only because she was my grandma, but because she was such a great person like yours. She was such a graceful person, inside and out. She was someone, who never had to raise her voice; just say that she was disappointed, and that would be the end of any argument. I don't see any way to improve on this. ~ Geez.

It sounds like your grandmother was a joy and a blessing, also. Precious treasures!
Thank you!

Very touching and filled with love. Grandmas are the best aren't they? Beautiful poem, Ruby :) xx

Give and grow - let's raise our verses together. I'm happy to comment on your work and appreciate a comment on mine.

She was my mother's mother, a wonderful grandmother, as was my paternal grandmother. Brings many happy thoughts when writing about her.
Thank you for reading!

Made me think of my grandmother in much the same way. When she came to visit on the holidays her ever present apron came out of her bag and she would slip it on and jump right in and take over in the kitchen. I don't think she ever knew the word relax. On the 4th of July we would climb out the bedroom window and sit on the porch roof and watch the fireworks from a nearby amusement park, and she would have a big pail of popcorn for us to eat. If I close my eyes, I can smell the sauerkraut on the stove cooking with her native Galumpkis, and I can here her talk in her polish accented voice.

Beautiful memories! I love all of these memories of our grandmothers. We were all very fortunate to have such wonderful women/role models/friends/angels in our lives.
Thank you for reading and sharing!

this one over for about the tenth time, I finally noticed something that I think might make a couple of lines a little smoother.
I would say:
"I am planted between the world of my childhood,
[the world of my grandmother's grace, and this colorful life I now share with grandchildren of my own.
