To Unlove You

I'm learning how
To unlove you

It hurts worse than loving you,
Knowing you don't love me back.

Abandoned

Submitted by Mary Beth Magee

She bobbed there in the gentle swell,
The little boat I knew so well.
The sail wrapped tight along the boom
Gave me a feeling of dark doom.
I saw no anchor chain hung down
To stop her, lest she run aground.
No one sat in her empty bow.
No hand controlled her keel just now.
A gentle breeze set her to rock.
How did she get loose from the dock?
As the breeze caused her to turn,
I spotted paint along her stern.
Rough letters where my name had been -
The words now looked like "Mortal Sin."
What had he done in dark of night?
Was he convicted by dawn's light?
Then in the reeds beside the dock…
What I saw gave me quite a shock.
A body, face down, on the lake,
Could it be him, for heaven's sake?
Please, no, I prayed and backed away.
What pushed him so, I cannot say.
I didn't dream that he would dare.
I only know I lost him there.

Neopoet Weekly 06/09/24 to 06/15/24 Winner!

This week’s winner is Lavender with the following poem

Winning Poem

Magic

Submitted by Lavender

A falling star settled on my rose,
a diamond dipped in velvet clothes.
I dared not touch the pure gift
sent from heaven, so swift,
but let it rest there
in such sweet air
and comply
to my
wish.

Neopoet Weelky 06/02/24 to 06/08/24 Winner!

This week’s contest winner is hippiemoon with following poem:

Archeology

By: hippiemoon

Years from now,
We will be dead and buried.
Your laugh nothing more than
A whisper in the wind,
A breeze carrying off dandelion wishes.

Our headstones will rest together,
Aging together, as we did in life.
Tears from our loved ones will mix with rain
And our memory will fade with the engravings.

And years from now,
We’re forgotten by everyone but the Earth.
They will dig our bodies up
And find our bones entwined in each other’s arms.

Something New

Rain rushes from the skies
Mixing with a single tear
The wind cuts through
Like every doubt, every fear

Lightning shatters my peace
Like the pieces of my mind
A distant thunderclap mocks
Of the girl I was and left behind

A tornado rages in my head
Demolishing my peace and joy
I plaster on a smile for you,
But it's just a tactic I employ

The fear paralyzes my heart
Yet I'm so tired of being afraid
It is time to get up and fight
Before my resolve starts to fade

My fingers curl around my sword
I lift it high, I've got my armor on
I bring it down with all my strength
Until the shattered pieces are gone

There is no fixing the girl I was
No use in buying time with glue
The only solution is to shatter her
And forge with fire Something New

When Worlds Collide

Never did he take your hand,
He left you alone,
Lying there,
Letting that last one fall.

Never did you believe,
Because you were smarter than that,
He was the one,
But somehow he changed.

He asked for your hand,
You dove in blindly,
And he never knew,
Why you ran away.

Now alone he keeps himself,
No one knows who he is,
A shadow on the wall,
You were always his whole world.

CRY NOT

CRY NOT

Cry not my love, cry not, though owls hoot in your chimney,
black with soot, their wooden wails, debilitated secret voices
of your mind, its wisdom dissipated by disease, ill at ease;
the curtain of days drawn shadows now turned to stone,

congealed, concealed your heart, yet within the granite
lie those feldspar crystals, quartz and precious gems,
the colours as the iris of your eye describes the beauty
you still hold; caught in the web of your own net,

BEQUEST

Let me hear your laughing voice
each night before I go to bed
and see the shadow of your form
elegant as the day we wed

I like to brush that hair aside
which tends to drop and hide your eyes
and saying something off the cuff
which catches you by pure surprise

And frowning at your puzzle book
on the couch as I sit here and write
in your old tee shirt and stained sweat pants
beneath the floor lamp's cozy light

Seasons in a Whisper

You are the spring of life
and I

the autumn
spread like wild leaves
across the meadows

and

distant horizon…

as you’re the rising sun
to smear a few rays perhaps
at a leaf maybe just one…

thanks for passing by
you make an autumn leaf
in me
fly sky high!

David "Red" Wiget

He was the good son
and brother, as well;

with a hunger for living
he couldn't quite quell;

his life was his family
'til he sent them, away;

my friend Red, cannot come out to play.

~

Quite tortured in life
Red still wore a smile,

inspiring awe
but, that was Red's style;

a sponsor, a mentor,
a student of the day;

Red's hope began slipping away.

~

What I remember of Red is,
he'd never condone,

DISPOSABLE BRAINS

If I could give something of mine away
I would not hesitate to take
My brain out…wrap it up in soft gauze
Pack it up in an old brown box
And in red ink…in block letters…
Scribble ‘FRAGILE’ on all six faces

If I could ask a favour from the most high
I’d say this prayer with a sigh;
‘O Lord, as a gift I need your mercy
I need you to take away my memory
Take the anger…take the bitterness
They leave me tired...they leave me stressed

Tonight it's just gray thoughts

WHEN ALL YOUR WALLS COME TUMBLING DOWN

WHEN ALL YOUR WALLS COME TUMBLING DWN

Who gave me a heart
that breaks so easily
and a soul
by the only name I know
that bleeds too deeply
in a body now frail
and old.

Who gave me eyes
that see too clearly
and a mind
blind to its own deceptions

And what does it take
to keep a heart from dying
when all your walls
come tumbling down.

SLIT

vestige vernacular
theres an itch smouldering
like a tricky ditch number
etched on the sketch
the nicotine sucked
fingers

growl "Lifes a bitch"

your a packet rack
stitched in jacked up
couture

leg slink climb from
heels to help get you
through the weathers
tell me your name
"You can call me Heather"

Boot Heel King walks on
with the flame of neon
flickering in slits

Dragon

Talons dripping fresh blood from the kill
Flesh left torn and ragged
words have talons , claws that, rend and tear
at gentle souls
Never to be forgiven
Never to be forgotten

Fire breathing dragon that you are
,burning all that defy you
Your day is coming
with vengeance overflowing

No more the the soft, female lass
Trading delicate outer shell
for a cover of iron and steel

Brandishing a sword
blood in the eyes
and an anger unleashed
upon the dragon

From Hell (eddy styx) {rhyming} Re-worked (again)

From Hell

From Hell 'twas told
the beast he came
with gaping jaw
and eye of flame

to virgins drawn
his hunger whet
on virtue fed
his course was set

a whore or two
for tastings' sake
a course before
his thirst to slake

in alleys dark
sharp blade was thrust
dank blood on shiv
as stark as rust

in passion heightened
hid by night
wide flung windows
his delight

untouched woman
in repose
deep in sleep
a blushing rose
