To Unlove You

I'm learning how
To unlove you

It hurts worse than loving you,
Knowing you don't love me back.

Abandoned

Submitted by Mary Beth Magee

She bobbed there in the gentle swell,
The little boat I knew so well.
The sail wrapped tight along the boom
Gave me a feeling of dark doom.
I saw no anchor chain hung down
To stop her, lest she run aground.
No one sat in her empty bow.
No hand controlled her keel just now.
A gentle breeze set her to rock.
How did she get loose from the dock?
As the breeze caused her to turn,
I spotted paint along her stern.
Rough letters where my name had been -
The words now looked like "Mortal Sin."
What had he done in dark of night?
Was he convicted by dawn's light?
Then in the reeds beside the dock…
What I saw gave me quite a shock.
A body, face down, on the lake,
Could it be him, for heaven's sake?
Please, no, I prayed and backed away.
What pushed him so, I cannot say.
I didn't dream that he would dare.
I only know I lost him there.

Neopoet Weekly 06/09/24 to 06/15/24 Winner!

This week’s winner is Lavender with the following poem

Winning Poem

Magic

Submitted by Lavender

A falling star settled on my rose,
a diamond dipped in velvet clothes.
I dared not touch the pure gift
sent from heaven, so swift,
but let it rest there
in such sweet air
and comply
to my
wish.

Neopoet Weelky 06/02/24 to 06/08/24 Winner!

This week’s contest winner is hippiemoon with following poem:

Archeology

By: hippiemoon

Years from now,
We will be dead and buried.
Your laugh nothing more than
A whisper in the wind,
A breeze carrying off dandelion wishes.

Our headstones will rest together,
Aging together, as we did in life.
Tears from our loved ones will mix with rain
And our memory will fade with the engravings.

And years from now,
We’re forgotten by everyone but the Earth.
They will dig our bodies up
And find our bones entwined in each other’s arms.

Something New

Rain rushes from the skies
Mixing with a single tear
The wind cuts through
Like every doubt, every fear

Lightning shatters my peace
Like the pieces of my mind
A distant thunderclap mocks
Of the girl I was and left behind

A tornado rages in my head
Demolishing my peace and joy
I plaster on a smile for you,
But it's just a tactic I employ

The fear paralyzes my heart
Yet I'm so tired of being afraid
It is time to get up and fight
Before my resolve starts to fade

My fingers curl around my sword
I lift it high, I've got my armor on
I bring it down with all my strength
Until the shattered pieces are gone

There is no fixing the girl I was
No use in buying time with glue
The only solution is to shatter her
And forge with fire Something New

THOUGHTS FROM A BLUFF

As the sun sets in the west
painting sailors' delight for coming day
I stand atop my back yard's bluff
above the pond as shadows play

Bluff casts a line across the water
dividing the opaque from clear
where fish flicker back and forth
as low-light feeding time draws near

As demarcation line advances
and more of the watery world is hidden
thoughts of mortality invade
filling up my mind, unbidden

UNREQUITED

When I woke up I smiled at you
you didn't see
when I sat up I saw you there
you didn't sense me
when I thought of you
you didn't know

when all the leaves have left the tree
and all the rivers fill
when birds awake in spring
and flowers ring

and flights of memory take off
to join the throng of joyful dance
on verge of madness

happiness is there to pluck
and yet
you perceive it not

In The Belly Of Night

In the belly of our once beautiful nights
Mythmaker’s psychotic fantasies
Has finally brought death to life.
We now cower with religious gadgets
Leapfrogging from one demon’s cursed claws
Only to land into another demon’s poisoned fangs:

a puzzlement

it is a puzzlement
my poor judgment in choosing you
as their father

I was young - too young perhaps

princess dreams and magic carpets

pre-schooler in this animation
the hard studies yet to be

but still
how I could've made such a bad call
amazes me, is a perplexity

~

you rarely cared in the few years you were there

and never attempted to make contact
after you left
deserted them

it wasn't that I didn't try

initials I elaborately
designed on my palm
its been a while since I
drew on my skin, as the ink
seeps in I think of you and these
songs playing from these headphones
take me to sacred moments we spent with us
the timeless immortal us, I see myself
fourteen, memories so clear
I see you thirteen and can
still feel you near, your
smile, your eyes, your
smell, in love we fell,
fate, stars and
all the things
unsaid,
so many

Hum drum

The hum drum glum
Low down days
Buzz and thrum
Drone on incessantly

Trapped, sapped of energy
Cramped in soulless mundane lives.
missing opportunities at every turn

Passed out, strung out
Apathetic, the throb and dull ache
smashing our will

Zapping and snapping nerves
Brittle In the chill of reality
Calling to someone to let us out

We have  the right
To take flight
In the pursuit of freedom

Cervantes

<p>A tired mother
young hatchlings to feed
they're truly too big now
to fulfill their need
it's time to go now
it's time to fly
time with no warning
go now with no why
soft down suspended
three hatchlings emerge
but that poor one
that young noble bird
a mother swoops in
a mother to mother
a child to give sympathy
a child to smother
she pecks and gives chase
for the weak dying male
he flaps and he screams
he flops and he flails

390 And say goodbye

I have forgotten the willow weeping in the field
How it brushed closely to the Earth
As the sunshine would glimmer through
Highlighting the wild flowers in bloom
Home to the sparrow and once a year
The turtle dove would tour through its branches.

I remember the golden sunset
It would paint the sky with purple, reds and oranges
Majestic upon the encroaching night
In breathless awe I would watch
As the clouds explode like rainbows
And the calm of the moment breeched serenity.

Solitude

the sun setting
golden in the breathless sky,
the sky turning red and pink and apricot
like a Parrish sunrise

there is a benediction
of hushed voices
as the night gathers
its dark crown and silk grasses

and the cave of the heart
takes off her shy veil
surrenders to all that is
like lilies blessing the open field

gods still walk amoung us
in the silence of holy men
and women. I am incapable of knowing
anything more.
