The Digital Cheat

Mutton dressed as lamb,
You can understand.
When it comes to the crunch
It’s something to munch.
But the digital sound
Is fooling around,
When the sound that is true
Should be coming from you
Not hidden circuits and wires
That can’t match your desires.
You press button a
A horn will play,
But you know it’s a cheat
The sound’s a deceit,
Because your cheeks are not puffed
And your wind pipe’s not stuffed
Trying to make the right sound
With your feet on the ground.
With the thing to your lips,
The sound is all pips
And squeaks to be heard.
The thing is absurd.
And what about the violin?
It seems to be a sin
When it takes so long to play
And you practice everyday
To push the bow across the strings.
But now you push a bunch of things
And out comes a lot of squeal
To trick you that its really real
Stradivarius ready to perform.
It does deserve a lot of scorn.
It’s just the digital cheat again
Second rate fiddle in the end.
And so it goes on with every sound,
A digital cheat I’ll be bound.

Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
How was my language use?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
How was the beginning/ending of the poem?
Is the internal logic consistent?

Firstly, welcome to Neopoet, I am so happy to welcome you here. I have to say there are a couple of new members and you're posting amazing first posts, I am really excited to read more of your work.

I see nothing in this id change its a solid poem and the cadence when read is perfect for me, I don't want to go into the meaning too much because I may be wrong ;) I want to read more of your poems first before I start drawing conclusions.

Kindest Regards Seren (Director of Community Outreach) if there is anything you need, or anything comes up just private message me I am usually not far away even if I am in OZ lol

I love digital. I also love analog. So my band mates’ father owned a legitimate 24 track analog recording studio and I had the privilege of hanging out, practicing and recording there. We were very lucky because that was a half a million dollar worth of gear let alone the outbuilding that housed it. I learned a lot. Things used to take a lot longer. All the things.

Digital can be applied to analog techniques. It makes edits a breeze. It completely eliminates closets full of slowly deteriorating magnetic tape. Which is also insanely expensive. I could go on but digital has enabled me to record and release my music where analog would have been cost prohibitive.

I still play the instruments. I still sing into microphones. It’s just how it’s applied I suppose because my stuff sounds very vintage and I assure you it’s all digitally processed. My guitars are still acoustics and mics or vintage tube amps going through a cab IR so I dont have to mic the speakers but still get the tube pre amp tones we all love.
