scribbler's blog
White landscaping by the frost and snow
Including all the drifts that the strong winds grow
Naked trees devoid of leaves
Trembling in the frigid breeze
Everybody dressed in wool and down
Racing through the streets of town
Deer wearing their warm gray coats
And dining in the wheat and oats
Yearning for the winter's end
Just realized nobody had done one of these in a while.................scribbler
Beginning as a welcome rain
on parched hills and thirsty plain
viewed as a blessed relief
as long as the stay was brief
Ere long the land has had its fill
each low spot now displays a rill
rivers and the streams are brimming
and rain's welcome is quickly dimming
for weeks the torrent just goes on
throughout the day and night and dawn
until the rivers leave their beds
and over all the land it spreads
~anna suggested a free verse version so here goes.............
Some souls sprout from stony beds
with hatred cold as glacial springs
or desire as hot as thermal vents
neither inviting stays of long duration
their lust
as near as they get
to love
soon rusts
sending the corrupter seeking
fresh victims
So to those of pure heart
beware
of blue jean clad demons
spouting all the right words
that are lies
Inspired by a remark from Anna of Ohio....
The story of a lonely man
who no one seems to know
though oft referred to out of hand
with words that hardly glow
All his life unrecognized
people do and others don't
you'd think that he was despised
acknowledge him? most people won't
So he lives a life of shame
or something real close to it
what is this poor ol' guys name ?
don't you know Jack Shitt ?
Hey ya'll ! Thought I'd get a bit of feedback before I decide to stream this...............
We've been there in every war
since 1812, maybe before
doomed, I have no idea why
to always fight and never die
Where ever brave men hate and fight
our platoon is within sight
with haggard faces and blank eyes
our conversations marked by sighs
And we remember each foe killed
both the cowards and strong willed
their looks of shock, complete surprise
appear each time we close our eyes
another oldie dusted off
Too little rain for way too long
ground so dry that it's just wrong
crops all dead from moisture's dearth
what led to this drought's arid birth ?
I've never seen it near this dry
all the clouds have just passed by
what used to be broad rolling rivers
reduced to narrow tricling slivers
Cattle are gone 'cause pasture's dead
nothing to raise in their stead
many brooks are now bone dry
trees wilting, prepared to die
I'm too cheap to send you all a card, so maybe this will suffice LoL
Season's greetings to all here
I wish you all a life of joy
so hoist your eggnog, tea, or beer
whatever drink that you employ
Gather those you love around
in a festive hall and celebrate
take comfort in their raucous sound
and join right in, don't hesitate
Lay pen aside for a short while
and chase the rhymes out of your head
take time to live and laugh and smile
enjoy the yule season instead
Unemployment ran out months ago
and folks have little money for odd jobs
I seek employment, the answer's no
as they look down noses, employed snobs
The wife's still working but on short hours
all of the bills suffer a strict triage
each time phone rings our family cowers
there's one car left in two car garage
If I can't find some work 'fore long
our over-priced home we can't sell
will to the bank soon belong
is there no end to this hell ?
