a dark meadow's guelder rose
a guelder rose of a dark grassy,
a good father's lassie;
though she didn't go out at night,
but she carried some viburnum, bright.
merchants were buying- she didn't bargain
lads were begging-she didn't donate;
she tied her little feet with samite-
she kept it for her friend Johnny ,a good guy.

very interesting take on Jack and Jill.
I'm imagining that there many such tales of youth from everywhere in the world.
This is the first I've seen from the Ukraine though, although as a youngster 7-8 yrs old,
we did have some from Poland, but I heard one of the older girls say that it was easier to say they were Polish,
Rather than explain where Poland and the Ukraine and Russia all came together.
[Everyone was scared shitless at that time of nuclear war and Russia] "Just say your Polish"

A Dark Meadow's Guelder Rose
So much here in these few words - I love all the references and personifications with the beautiful, different flowers. I will admit, I looked up quite a bit to connect them. You've done a wonderful job. There is a strong sense of pride, and a subtle sense of sadness. Much to think about here.
