It wasn't always like this, was it?
what would I do with a middle-class, white, American woman?
probably turn to drugs
or alcohol,
while going broke,
trying to find and negotiate
her 'happy place'
as I painfully pretended to enjoy
the in-laws' family crap
and be force-fed whole gains, granola, and broccoli
talk!
she'd want us to TALK!
no no, that would be it
it would be over
so over
talk?
what she'd really mean is
"listen to me, listen to me
you never listen to me"
....and she would never shut up
It wasn't always like this, was it?

Not all women are chatty, you just have to look harder, myself ? I am pretty quiet unless I am poked then it all changes, I really loved your poem even though its aimed at a certain group of women I think a lot of women and not all of them are middle-class are chatters lol I had a little giggle you sound exasperated
with love JC xxx

exasperated, yes
but sometimes the shoe fits...own up to it white, middle class woman of America!
Equality does not mean being pushy, bossy, and demanding. Chill out women!
I think I've said enough...Too much
got to run (and hide) now
thanks for your thoughts

To me, there is more to this than chatting. I can say that at times, I know the feeling. Strong write.

yes, more than just talking and chatting and gabbing....etc.
some sense of entitlement has pervaded....a new this, a better that, more of those, a bigger one, upward and onward, more more more! I can't, and don't want to keep up with the unquenchable needs
for now, anyway, I am going solo. It feels GOOD
thanks
