Mum... You and I

By: Rula

Together we witnessed time ebbs and tides:

we went through ups, we went through downs,

yet luckily we got each other's sides,

you and I, you and I.

Together, unwillingly, we grew old,

with devestating wrinkles, and white hair.

We both raised families, yet we're still bold

You and I, you and I.

Together we laughed, together we cried:

I uplifted your spirits, you got my tears wiped,

we stayed together, side by side,

You and, I you and I.

Together we lived for worse and better,

until Alzheimer's stole you, my bank of love,

although you promised to stay forever

You and I, you and I.

My Gold

By Mr joghe

In whom I spent my old days and nights,

Who rocked me in my cradle;

And fed my pretty mouth with a spoon,

Did weep while I should weep.

How much will I pay

For the pain you’ve taken for me?

Who worked that jumper to keep me warm;

Treated me with diffidence and respect,

Her healthy arms always be my stay,

And always admired my prudent face that filled with laughter.

How much will I pay

For the pains you’ve taken for me?

Who tired me with apology for being tiresome,

And asked twenty questions and never waited for an answer.

My timidity struck her at the first sight;

When she taught me to expect something extraordinary.

How much will I pay

For the pains you’ve taken for me?

I find such a pleasure

In obeying her commands,

That I take care to observe;

Shall soon come to bless me.

How much will I pay

For the pains you’ve taken for me?

I vow, I thought so;

Never, as among queens and princesses

In her age; to be explicit,

I’ve kept very little company

In pretty smooth dialogues with her.

How much will I pay

For the pains you’ve taken for me?

A Middle Class Eulogy

we the people
are not represented
by conservative or liberal
Democratic, tea-Party Republican or Libertarian agenda
it is not American as apple
pie to drive a wedge between
rich and poor, killing the middle class
by the ruling class,

fat wallets anonymous
contribute to campaign strategy
and borderline poverty

American TV is bought and sold
and then there's the devil to pay
as long as corporate greed is
aided and abetted by the dualistic party's
conservative mantra:

on the subject of roses

does it hurt to be
a thorn
on the rose?

I do not know such
things,

sometimes the
sting of words
rains tears in my eyes
and my lips start to bleed...

sun drenched veins on the leaf
surge through apple-buttered skies

words fall to the wayside,

roads we have yet to travel
to roses we have yet to touch.

FLUX

Heat of summer
wrapped in beach towel humidity
and winds that burn
this sun that blisters

their lives in boxes
and I propped up at the bar
the barmaiden charms
and double black russians
and beer

I pack their lives in neat boxes
and packing tape
as if I could fit into a box so tidy
my corners full
my edges perfect

It ain't nothing but a chicken wing
Scarce as hen's teeth
Too many cooks spoil the broth
Keep your nose to the grindstone

It’s all good
hot to trot
Keep it on the down low
love is blind
A necessary evil
the lesser of the two evils
All hands to the pump

Acid test
A mile a minute

Silence is golden
Free as a bird
like a seven year itch
I’m game

Rotten to the core
Knock it out of the park
Knock the cover off the ball
a rolling stone gathers no moss

Pole to Pole

Those belfry bats swing your moods,
leaving the stink of mind produced;
and here we are,
paddling in your shit again.

Drops of Compulsion

Faded circles of bourbon stains
dot her weathered nightstand’s surface
like stars speckle the midnight sky.
Each remnant commemorates her
quest for sleep, a prop of courage
consumed to help forge another day.

Bras, slips, heels and flats
pepper the carpet
reflections of impediments
that fleck her soul.

Harbored distortions from her past
forgiven by those who know her
forgotten by others
festers in her frontal lobe.

here on earth

the night is a blueberry poem
written by the waning light

if i could have had a bluer day,
imagination would be freer
than it is and wild horses
of chestnut and black beauty
would have ridden me into the meadows
of sunset

i would have drawn the shades of darkness
and let the vision of You sleep where poems
do not go hunting
and do not hunger,
for Thine is the kingdom
here on earth.

The Knowing

If my mind is ever present

and my solitude's a friend,

dark ideas lead to actions

darker actions, towards a trend;

~

a stoic calm is my exterior

never, ever break a sweat,

in the hollow of my inner being

I've this appetite to whet.

~

Within the chasm where my soul goes

a dank pulsating yearns to start,

tuning out the distant conscience

because I haven't any heart;

~

half the time I am the predator

in the darkness after day,

Cracked

Cracked

Fraudulent shell unyielding
tough exterior hiding internal bleeding,
frail and fractured.

Fusion of insecurities protected.
Verbal dexterity,
erecting barriers, to ward off feeling.

Splintered shards lacerate
and jab flesh,
droplets of vulnerability.

Prod and poke the meat
abrasions remain eternal,
Pulping organs.

Tough little kernal
Self healing,
Mending each fissure.

Deformed and scarred
but gives impression of
Wellbeing.

Spector

Spector of lost dreams rises
as she gazes at the stars in mute prayer
Virginal innocence undone

Begat from the loins of hades
Cursed, to roam this unholy earth
Soul seeker is given birth

Innocent child tainted blood
Coursing through his veins,
Murderous creature undone.

Metamorphosis into adulthood
On the cusp,
Innocence receding.

Lust broiling uncontained,
breeding the monster,
destined to be undone.
