To Unlove You

I'm learning how
To unlove you

It hurts worse than loving you,
Knowing you don't love me back.

Abandoned

Submitted by Mary Beth Magee

She bobbed there in the gentle swell,
The little boat I knew so well.
The sail wrapped tight along the boom
Gave me a feeling of dark doom.
I saw no anchor chain hung down
To stop her, lest she run aground.
No one sat in her empty bow.
No hand controlled her keel just now.
A gentle breeze set her to rock.
How did she get loose from the dock?
As the breeze caused her to turn,
I spotted paint along her stern.
Rough letters where my name had been -
The words now looked like "Mortal Sin."
What had he done in dark of night?
Was he convicted by dawn's light?
Then in the reeds beside the dock…
What I saw gave me quite a shock.
A body, face down, on the lake,
Could it be him, for heaven's sake?
Please, no, I prayed and backed away.
What pushed him so, I cannot say.
I didn't dream that he would dare.
I only know I lost him there.

Neopoet Weekly 06/09/24 to 06/15/24 Winner!

This week’s winner is Lavender with the following poem

Winning Poem

Magic

Submitted by Lavender

A falling star settled on my rose,
a diamond dipped in velvet clothes.
I dared not touch the pure gift
sent from heaven, so swift,
but let it rest there
in such sweet air
and comply
to my
wish.

Neopoet Weelky 06/02/24 to 06/08/24 Winner!

This week’s contest winner is hippiemoon with following poem:

Archeology

By: hippiemoon

Years from now,
We will be dead and buried.
Your laugh nothing more than
A whisper in the wind,
A breeze carrying off dandelion wishes.

Our headstones will rest together,
Aging together, as we did in life.
Tears from our loved ones will mix with rain
And our memory will fade with the engravings.

And years from now,
We’re forgotten by everyone but the Earth.
They will dig our bodies up
And find our bones entwined in each other’s arms.

Something New

Rain rushes from the skies
Mixing with a single tear
The wind cuts through
Like every doubt, every fear

Lightning shatters my peace
Like the pieces of my mind
A distant thunderclap mocks
Of the girl I was and left behind

A tornado rages in my head
Demolishing my peace and joy
I plaster on a smile for you,
But it's just a tactic I employ

The fear paralyzes my heart
Yet I'm so tired of being afraid
It is time to get up and fight
Before my resolve starts to fade

My fingers curl around my sword
I lift it high, I've got my armor on
I bring it down with all my strength
Until the shattered pieces are gone

There is no fixing the girl I was
No use in buying time with glue
The only solution is to shatter her
And forge with fire Something New

Beseechingly

Enlighten me to understand

Let the light of truth
Illuminate the serpentine road
That I traverse in my life
So I may see the obstacles
Littering my negative thoughts

Proclaim a place
Where the freedom of thought
Cannot be incarcerated
With controlled domestications
By those who fear positive growth

Let me be the hammer
Pounding on the inequities
Created by dreams
Seen in a mirror
Covered with smoke

the mentalist

i've got transfixed hallows
up my sleeve,
and a white rabbit in my top hat
and a flabbergasting opulent cape
with this, the secret i drape
before revealing the splendor
of magical light and color

shuffling cards arrange into a tower
the queen of hearts and the king of Flower
the Ace has grace
and the Jack craves power
ace to base
the rest know their place

so now that i have your attention,
ladies and gentlemen,

s a v i o u r

the flag flutters
red white and blue
those earthly colours that our god fearing nation grew

from opressions of a Kingly tax
we rushed to aid those weak
under attack

The eagle is our totem sign
feirce strong who gives his time
in aiding with his warrior might
opressed and blinded a true sight

A leading nation helping still
our multied people with good will
our leader with a back bones strong
our bill of rights that will last long

MOON OVER CAROLINA (May humor contest)

On this clear spring afternoon
from my deck off toward the east
I spy a Carolina moon
as pale as sourdough bread yeast

The sky is shared by setting sun
although the sun is in the west
moonrise to east has just begun
as white as any virgin's breast

That moon above a flower bed
just before it's time to sup
leads me to yell at neighbor,"Fred!
Be kind and pull your short pants up!"

*don't blame Me, Barb inspired me with Her moon poem lol

gravity

Words spoken to mean nothing
Such a waste of breath

Deep down I know there's something
I can recognize on this earth

Something...
Like you
...being a speck of blue
In my never-ending sky of gray

Yet I can't help but think...

Of the unknown face of the moon

Of the tongue like an angry wave
How easily lies can roll off it.

What is it then, to feel safe?
When they fester so in my head?

So when there is something I can recognize
...
Then...

You can wake me up

Love Lies, Bitter/Sour

Promises with sentiment,
selflessness portrayed;

lustful motives so, hell-bent
with the goal of getting, laid.

Only half with earnest hearts,
the other half don't care;

but, they're the ones throwing the darts,
with such accuracy, it isn't "fair"!

Sorrows coerce, heavy hearts to break
as unions fade away;

bonus points, are what they "fake",
when there's nothing left to say.

Each time-line turns, bitter/sour
sadness, refusing to stop;

Workshop:

Tolerance and worthy intentions

My deep affection reaches for your heart sometimes
Like a birdsong from a willow
You have batted, distracted, at the delicate intention
Like a bothered youth at summer gnats
And yet there springs more sweet consideration
Tolerance, at least in time
And appreciation further to embed more bonded warmth and comfort
I would offer butterflies of tenderness and trust
Yet you would have less fragile ministrations
We may bestow less concentrated pleasantries at times
And yet in all my understanding, gathered over years

THE AUTHOR IS DEAD

Letters play zigzag pattern in my head
Like this world in which we come to live in
Poetic talents gifted in diverse ways
Some to follow and others to lead on
As reflected in works of the Congress
On posted poems of teaming multitude
A unique stream dancing before our eyes
Where myriad promising writers grow up

African Untouched Glory

In Africa elephants roam freely
grazing open pastures of vegetation
Where white pillows cling to blue skies
Touching a green flush carpet of grassland

Native men dance for future brides
adorned in beautifully printed alfgans
to the tunes of their island women singing
Along the wide open dirt road never ending

One day I hope to vacation Africa's homeland
and enjoy the natural earth in it undeveloped form

Ironies

A gross irony perpetuates
in the surrounding mists
that intrude like rays of night
on a season of blighted hope,
and sundering sense from morality

-Vain goes the fists against the foe
who is not without, nor far in distant hell.
worn is might and wind is turned to woe-

I suck at what I hope to bring to being,
and being is a curse from birth to death.
And even then, ridden with grave lack
that pitches intellect against a divine right;
like a candle sets the mists of night alight
