To Unlove You

I'm learning how
To unlove you

It hurts worse than loving you,
Knowing you don't love me back.

Abandoned

Submitted by Mary Beth Magee

She bobbed there in the gentle swell,
The little boat I knew so well.
The sail wrapped tight along the boom
Gave me a feeling of dark doom.
I saw no anchor chain hung down
To stop her, lest she run aground.
No one sat in her empty bow.
No hand controlled her keel just now.
A gentle breeze set her to rock.
How did she get loose from the dock?
As the breeze caused her to turn,
I spotted paint along her stern.
Rough letters where my name had been -
The words now looked like "Mortal Sin."
What had he done in dark of night?
Was he convicted by dawn's light?
Then in the reeds beside the dock…
What I saw gave me quite a shock.
A body, face down, on the lake,
Could it be him, for heaven's sake?
Please, no, I prayed and backed away.
What pushed him so, I cannot say.
I didn't dream that he would dare.
I only know I lost him there.

Neopoet Weekly 06/09/24 to 06/15/24 Winner!

This week’s winner is Lavender with the following poem

Winning Poem

Magic

Submitted by Lavender

A falling star settled on my rose,
a diamond dipped in velvet clothes.
I dared not touch the pure gift
sent from heaven, so swift,
but let it rest there
in such sweet air
and comply
to my
wish.

Neopoet Weelky 06/02/24 to 06/08/24 Winner!

This week’s contest winner is hippiemoon with following poem:

Archeology

By: hippiemoon

Years from now,
We will be dead and buried.
Your laugh nothing more than
A whisper in the wind,
A breeze carrying off dandelion wishes.

Our headstones will rest together,
Aging together, as we did in life.
Tears from our loved ones will mix with rain
And our memory will fade with the engravings.

And years from now,
We’re forgotten by everyone but the Earth.
They will dig our bodies up
And find our bones entwined in each other’s arms.

Something New

Rain rushes from the skies
Mixing with a single tear
The wind cuts through
Like every doubt, every fear

Lightning shatters my peace
Like the pieces of my mind
A distant thunderclap mocks
Of the girl I was and left behind

A tornado rages in my head
Demolishing my peace and joy
I plaster on a smile for you,
But it's just a tactic I employ

The fear paralyzes my heart
Yet I'm so tired of being afraid
It is time to get up and fight
Before my resolve starts to fade

My fingers curl around my sword
I lift it high, I've got my armor on
I bring it down with all my strength
Until the shattered pieces are gone

There is no fixing the girl I was
No use in buying time with glue
The only solution is to shatter her
And forge with fire Something New

Masterpiece

if these tears had a voice
They would be pleading to leave
If this emptiness had an address
I would send joy as a house warming gift

If only time could hear
I would tell it to take the day off
By chance, if a smile appeared
I would make my home its palace

We cry as if no one judges
Speak like orators of ancient times
Smile as if we replaced the sun

We are free like the birds overhead
Embedded with the soul of poets
And never bury the dream
That waits to be a masterpiece

One Day

It was autumn
and the air was crisp and cool.
I remember walking the trails
with the boy I liked
and he liked me
and that's all that mattered to me then.

We were all running down hill
kicking up sand behind us
laughing and tripping
and thinking of nothing
but the moment we were in.

If I had known of what was ahead
I would have cherished every second
instead of thinking of the sand in my hair
and the cold wind
blowing through my jacket.

FLYING OLD DAMN IT. Ann-knit.

I'll catch a million stars, and put them in my cheeks, breeks,
sneakers, let their powerful light, fire me up into the air
where gravity is gone, and there I'll dance a little while
and listen to your song,
as sing I know you can, so I'm not wrong.

And then I'll take a comet, and race around the world,
they'll wonder what on earth, in heaven has occurred,
a wild old fashioned lady in long skirts is quite unfurled
and is speeding at the speed of light oh how absurd.

Feast of an Apple Bite

Asked by them that shaped him
Out of the clay of a garden,
To dream big beyond the spheres and stars
All he dreamt of left him with eternal scars
For after partaking in a feast of a single apple bite
Whiles romancing an enchantress under a strange fig tree
Paradise mightiest cast him out of sight
To savour the harshness throes of the night
In a world that welcomed him warmly
With a cloak woven from his own curses.

in pain

In pain I saw the hills today
my back with age shouts
No longer the youth I was
with vigour

wake from restless dreams
to chores waiting
I have a place in my gods world
and thank him so for
small rewards
my freind

sometimes when Im not looking
out and caught up in my moody
blue my god still remembers
you for Ive said a prayer
to all

remembering that Im not
selfish after all

Soul Assassin

Purposefully striding forward
condescending
you do not greet me
with affection
or love.
Destructive
stored up frustrations
take aim at me
from the weapon
that resides in your heart
and shoots from your mouth.
Coldness
condemnation
your only form of interaction.
Relentless disapproval
meant to reprimand me
like a child
and with it
an attempt to steal my joy.

I bring myself to these

In the small purple spaces between the demands
Ponderous moonbeam-like moments I steal
I stretch out the time, catching sun in my hands
And climb into these luscious sensations I feel

The curl of a passion vine tendril
The wisp of a cloud against blue
The sentiment blown on the kiss of a child
And the quiet reflection on feelings for you

I dreamed of a meadow in sunshine
Where the breeze caressed grass bade me lay
And the buoyancy lust pulls for sharing
Lifted both of us up to the brightness of day

I lost a childhood dream

I’ve reached a time in my life where I need you most,
Because I have become mad,
Mad at a lot of things,
Mad at the world,
People,
Politics,
And lost in everything else,
Wouldn’t you be?
If you saw the death of something beautiful.
The death of a dream,
The absence of an array of colors,
The setting of a foreign sun,
Things I all wish to come back,
But I can’t have all that I wish for,
But right this second,
This moment,
This right now,
I can have you with me,

Culling the Herd

It started out with a simple thought,
I think.
Non-violent resistance.
It caught on fire and spread over every
land and enlightened the human
evolutionary mind.

Apes have opposable thumbs,
firmly within their grasp the branches
but precision is not an acquired skill
and the nature of nature follows certain
cyclical patterns.
