Culling the Herd

It started out with a simple thought,
I think.
Non-violent resistance.
It caught on fire and spread over every
land and enlightened the human
evolutionary mind.

Apes have opposable thumbs,
firmly within their grasp the branches
but precision is not an acquired skill
and the nature of nature follows certain
cyclical patterns.

Mimes talked incessantly with their hands
peace makers bowed their heads and followed
behind the resistance to retaliate,
"an eye for an eye",
Gandhi said,
"makes the whole world blind",
and the blind lead the blind
sometimes.

In solidarity
today begins a week of fasting
for prisoners, imprisoned by 'administrative detention',
a euphemism that strikes down liberty and justice for all--
freedom is never Jewish or Palestinian, black or white,
Christian or Muslim, rich or poor
and death by starvation is the only tool that is used every day
for millions who have no choice.

I've always wondered why love isn't the freedom that gives
us no choice but to share what we have with those who
don't.

Last few words:
This nonviolent action was initiated by Oberlin College students in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners (including children) being held in Israeli jails under *administrative detention*. (Some are near death.) I expand this to include all prisoners everywhere who are unjustly imprisoned by racial profiling, the politics of poverty and the selfishness that recreates an us and them. I abhor patronizing political poetry, but once in a while, I do try to hammer the issue home.

Most of these incidents occur for a few reason that truly in the scheme of things have no value when it come to human life. (land, money and ego.) these are all things you never actually own. To me the only thing that truly is yours, is the love you feel inside for your fellow man or woman. Simple because only you can feel it.

I am glad that you bought this to the light of day. the blind eye of suffering is the only one that should be plucked out.
