I'm learning how

Abandoned

Submitted by Mary Beth Magee

She bobbed there in the gentle swell,
The little boat I knew so well.
The sail wrapped tight along the boom
Gave me a feeling of dark doom.
I saw no anchor chain hung down
To stop her, lest she run aground.
No one sat in her empty bow.
No hand controlled her keel just now.
A gentle breeze set her to rock.
How did she get loose from the dock?
As the breeze caused her to turn,
I spotted paint along her stern.
Rough letters where my name had been -
The words now looked like "Mortal Sin."
What had he done in dark of night?
Was he convicted by dawn's light?
Then in the reeds beside the dock…
What I saw gave me quite a shock.
A body, face down, on the lake,
Could it be him, for heaven's sake?
Please, no, I prayed and backed away.
What pushed him so, I cannot say.
I didn't dream that he would dare.
I only know I lost him there.

Neopoet Weekly 06/09/24 to 06/15/24 Winner!

This week’s winner is Lavender with the following poem

Winning Poem

Magic

Submitted by Lavender

A falling star settled on my rose,
a diamond dipped in velvet clothes.
I dared not touch the pure gift
sent from heaven, so swift,
but let it rest there
in such sweet air
and comply
to my
wish.

Neopoet Weelky 06/02/24 to 06/08/24 Winner!

This week’s contest winner is hippiemoon with following poem:

Archeology

By: hippiemoon

Years from now,
We will be dead and buried.
Your laugh nothing more than
A whisper in the wind,
A breeze carrying off dandelion wishes.

Our headstones will rest together,
Aging together, as we did in life.
Tears from our loved ones will mix with rain
And our memory will fade with the engravings.

And years from now,
We’re forgotten by everyone but the Earth.
They will dig our bodies up
And find our bones entwined in each other’s arms.

Congratulations to Shelby Pryor for winning this week’s contest

Something New

Rain rushes from the skies
Mixing with a single tear
The wind cuts through
Like every doubt, every fear

Lightning shatters my peace
Like the pieces of my mind
A distant thunderclap mocks
Of the girl I was and left behind

A tornado rages in my head
Demolishing my peace and joy
I plaster on a smile for you,
But it's just a tactic I employ

The fear paralyzes my heart
Yet I'm so tired of being afraid
It is time to get up and fight
Before my resolve starts to fade

My fingers curl around my sword
I lift it high, I've got my armor on
I bring it down with all my strength
Until the shattered pieces are gone

There is no fixing the girl I was
No use in buying time with glue
The only solution is to shatter her
And forge with fire Something New

crest
stetch split
this mirror break

in cascade shards

a many cast brokenness
collects

dwell splinter dancers
rest

the days yearning host
flush has fled
like funeral candles
and ice on the trim of
the shed

the wamth cup light
appeal

the great Purifier
is here

SAVIOR

You save my heart from being stone
and have done so for so many years
kept this brooding man from life alone
a fate which any sane man fears

For I know one such as I
can't be easy to endure
how often have I made you cry?
far too many times I'm sure

You're the one who melts the ice
every time my soul turns chill
you're the sole one to entice
me back down that frozen hill

I Looked at the Sky Today

I looked at the sky today
and you came into mind,
I wondered if we were
one pretending to be two
or if we were two moving
towards each other like
sunrise to the moon.

Like love.

Pure

Lips that slake the outside thirst
for clear water
leave crimson petals on the glass,
mocking the mask that belies innocence.
.
Rest eludes the racing mind
surrounded by shouts of soul
and eternal fires, yet
sleep would bring another hell.
~
There is no escape
for this unworthy lamb
rejected by the good god
unworthy of a fairytale redemption.
~
She would rather walk alone
than listen to the mocking bleat
bounce pitiful from pew to pulpit,
forever and ever, amen.

miracles

they say there hasn’t been a miracle
since heaven up above knows only when
and things we used to see as spiritual
have somehow moved off way beyond our ken

a long time’s passed since angels, happily
delivered news of wondrous, new instruction
we hurtle on, towards calamity
to thirst, disease and weapons of destruction

a baby born a year ago this spring
today has proven there’s phenomenon
she stands and staggers, totters, then she’s walking
and so the human race continues on

The Loving

The Loving

How you may cry,
did this world
that has enclosed me.
For long days,
become so real.

That you would turn
from those days
Those days
when the sun felt warm
as it played with your skin.

Making each gentle caress
of the breeze
a multitude of sins
Did you lose sight
of the real you
then only see your wishes

What if they can see,
those things in their minds
Then you are not
what they are looking for,
because they are blind

ABOUT INCANTATIONS

ABOUT INCANTATIONS

you are magic
enchantment.
you sing your words
modulate your love
murmuring melancholy
in minor key
and golden tongue

you have touched
my very meaning
and brought my soul
to a near dying
with your deceit and lying.

Ferocity

buckle black
the shine
like a sun
on midnight

a Lavender
sigh pressed
against the temple

like a door to the
expressway of
freedom

awoken from the
dream by a can turning
tricks for the wind
between the lights

a moan of her through
the wires
and bending limbs
performing stretches
while the stars pull
at their stiches
twisting
to the ear of heaven
listening

the world will be

poorer without you
the founder member of Neo
and
I assure myself
no one will ever take your place ever
you are the best critique by far....
the only one
who sees the nuances
but damn cares who the poet may be ....
over decades now i have been swimming
in shallow streams
to be elevated as a poet
I always dream
some day perhaps
someone will lay a wreath
and say
here lies a poet under rose’s reef

Following the Sun ~ for p

I love you in the immediacy of a perfect
white bloom. In the breathlessness of
a cold winter's window, streaked with
summer memories of you, I write your
name. In my heart we're already the
wild wind tamed, following the ripened
sun.
We're already waves floating
on the sea and the smiles
in our children's eyes,
dancing and singing,
singing and dancing.
