Weekly Neopoet Contest Poem Autumn People

Ragged and raw wind of gossip
thickens,
pulsing around her trembling frame.
Her words swim
in the polluted waters,
that had once been
the moat encircling her domain.
Hungry reptiles in her courtyard
green scaly-faced monsters
on the slippery incline,
Of the treachery of their desire.
Arriving in droves,
gathering at the foot hills of her mountain.
Watching... for a sign.
Hungrily awaiting her downfall,
her collapse and decline
Would feed their quickening blood.
For now sustained on the appetizer
Of her heightened dread.
They would starve if not for the feast of fear,
and death's arms would fold them
back to the mud and mire of their marsh.
She rallies and cries
"Be gone damned and woebegone,
sink into the slime
from whence thee spawned
get thee gone, Demon children
quit thy hold upon my heart
discontinue desist and depart
for
*"by the pricking of my thumbs
something wicked this way comes..."

I have no idea why, but I had this weird vision of Joan de Arc!
I then went back to read it closer and it seemed even more obvious!
Are you writing about little Joannie? No matter what the scene is...
I enjoyed the read! ~ Geez.

for reading this bit of my sleeping imagination. this one woke me up and I had to get it written down immediately, before it could leave me. I know only a little about Joan o. A. one, that she had the strength of her convictions and two, she was courageous. I think I shall do some reading up on her.
*hugs, Cat

p.s.
I would like to see you write a poem on her.

I may be tempted to try. [ a poem about Joan of Arc], I may get to it after I take care of a couple of other things. Glad to see you writing and hope you keep doing it. ~ Geez.

Hi, Cat,
I am puzzled with the meaning, but love the language. Very eerie, especially "...feast of fear." I am even more intrigued with the title and will wait to read your response to tie it all together. Definitely something wicked this way comes.

I am an Autumn person, it is my season to shine (as in I am highly energized, motivated and inspired.) my personal magic is strong and crisp like the season. but this year covid tripped me up. I still have the desire to DO, but my ability is nil. I feel drained and reminded of my two sisters, who took great joy and satisfaction in my failures. this year we (Steven and I)have been demoralized with the passing of four of our feline family) we are/were very close to each and all. after a few months, we went to our local animal shelter and adopted a female Russian Blue named Mia. she is a real head trip. she is middle aged but can kick butt with the best of them. she is very verbose and is always talking. she yells at her toys, when in attack mode. and carries her toys around with her. her energy has kept my spirits up. (we still have Shadow, another Russian Blue she is a darling who has her own room.) oops, motor mouth here, sorry about that!

*hugs & love, Cat

A powerful write...had a bit of a Beowulf feel to it. Great job!
