To Unlove You

I'm learning how
To unlove you

It hurts worse than loving you,
Knowing you don't love me back.

Abandoned

Submitted by Mary Beth Magee

She bobbed there in the gentle swell,
The little boat I knew so well.
The sail wrapped tight along the boom
Gave me a feeling of dark doom.
I saw no anchor chain hung down
To stop her, lest she run aground.
No one sat in her empty bow.
No hand controlled her keel just now.
A gentle breeze set her to rock.
How did she get loose from the dock?
As the breeze caused her to turn,
I spotted paint along her stern.
Rough letters where my name had been -
The words now looked like "Mortal Sin."
What had he done in dark of night?
Was he convicted by dawn's light?
Then in the reeds beside the dock…
What I saw gave me quite a shock.
A body, face down, on the lake,
Could it be him, for heaven's sake?
Please, no, I prayed and backed away.
What pushed him so, I cannot say.
I didn't dream that he would dare.
I only know I lost him there.

This week’s winner is Lavender with the following poem

Winning Poem

Magic

Submitted by Lavender

A falling star settled on my rose,
a diamond dipped in velvet clothes.
I dared not touch the pure gift
sent from heaven, so swift,
but let it rest there
in such sweet air
and comply
to my
wish.

Neopoet Weelky 06/02/24 to 06/08/24 Winner!

This week’s contest winner is hippiemoon with following poem:

Archeology

By: hippiemoon

Years from now,
We will be dead and buried.
Your laugh nothing more than
A whisper in the wind,
A breeze carrying off dandelion wishes.

Our headstones will rest together,
Aging together, as we did in life.
Tears from our loved ones will mix with rain
And our memory will fade with the engravings.

And years from now,
We’re forgotten by everyone but the Earth.
They will dig our bodies up
And find our bones entwined in each other’s arms.

Something New

Rain rushes from the skies
Mixing with a single tear
The wind cuts through
Like every doubt, every fear

Lightning shatters my peace
Like the pieces of my mind
A distant thunderclap mocks
Of the girl I was and left behind

A tornado rages in my head
Demolishing my peace and joy
I plaster on a smile for you,
But it's just a tactic I employ

The fear paralyzes my heart
Yet I'm so tired of being afraid
It is time to get up and fight
Before my resolve starts to fade

My fingers curl around my sword
I lift it high, I've got my armor on
I bring it down with all my strength
Until the shattered pieces are gone

There is no fixing the girl I was
No use in buying time with glue
The only solution is to shatter her
And forge with fire Something New

Our Honours Listed or OH..L

Our Honours Listed Or OH..L

The silence in the camps is most resounding,
but our quiet voices of power is astounding.

Walk with me he says I’ll make sense
of our stinking world, from the obese
riches of the western poor, to the thin
skin and bone bodies of an eastern life.

Sure I can show you the peoples of trading
African nations dying from hunger while their
leaders are like puffed out Penguins, attending
stately banquets of queens and presidents alike
soon forgetting their countries strife.

Jimmy Bear

Couldn’t get a ride home
it was either wait for four hours
or start hoofin’ it for two
under the Rundberg pass
a blurred man lighting a refry

large, curly, blonde
fro-mane, like a great
thick picture frame
showing eyes and nose only
his jacket and jeans
the worn, nodescript
color of fading- red? brown? blue?
It wasn’t too cold
I had nada to do
that night, just walked by, but
we looked at each other,
eyes wondered
each others questions.
and then-

nothing

afterwards

i.

"my cold ass
against your thighs"
inside the soupy bliss
of afterwards
like sprawled out poems
on sweat-stained sheets
drooling with hymns
and confessions of a bygone astronaut

we inhabit different worlds again
spilling seeds
we bring back to earth
our war against the candlelight
slipping off moss and tongue
day by day in words we will not ever say

Friendship

When sun rays and rain drops get together,
They form an iridescent rainbow with beautiful weather
When bees and flowers come together,
Forms a sweet honey forever.
When a river and a sea get together,
Forms an ocean forever.
When YOU and ME get together
Forms a FRIENDSHIP unbroken forever.

First Mind, Second Mind, My Third Mind

One morning by my window
my first mind was made aware,

while the dew clung fast to the outside glass
I saw there wasn't anybody, there.

I squinted at the morning's brightness
straining my focus for so I could see,

but my view held empty promises
and none of them were meant to be.

About that time my second mind
began to rear it's crazy head,

to my dismay it wanted to, "play"
I considered going back to bed!

Then from my heart my third mind
offered me another choice,

Let's Pretend

Let's pretend away the shadows
and erase away the fears,

we'll find solace in the future
and let the past hold all the tears;

let's pretend for just an instance
empty moments we hadn't shared,

and both of us were interested
because both of us still cared.

Let's pretend we're in the sunshine
sipping cock-tails in the shade,

and neither you, nor I could think of
any place, which we would trade;

Let's pretend we're not pretending
or that we never thought to start;

THE GARDEN OF THE FINZI-CONTINI:

poem updated
Il giardino dei Finzi-Contini
[The Garden of the Finzi-Contini]

On a hillside of the Emilia-Romagna
Cascading colors dark
And somber
Ivy deep green
Shrouding Etruscan faces
Screaming
Paralyzed in stone
Sinews black of Cypress trees
Shadows with no breath
Of sunlight
There lay
Protected and alone
The garden of the Finzi-Contini
Italians of the Sephardic kind
Safe and hidden
From the sounds of war
The year nineteen hundred and forty four

sound of Solace

To you in the back of the room
Who accepted insults
Like insulin
To a diabetic

A pair of headphones
Silences taunting voices

Sitting in the last row
Watching as cliques
Try to ostracize you
For not converting
To their ideologies

The lyrics to some rap song
Playing on repeat
Became a sound of solace

You just want to paint
the boring lecture hall
With true colors
Rather than the epidemic
Of superficiality

The Birds, The Bees, and How They Settled

I guess I'm alive if that's what you'd call it
i've been waiting to set free the wish in my pocket
so, so long dirt road
i'll see you 'round
the valley, it beckons the wind as it blows
all the spiders are going to bed with the crows
'cause they settled for naught
let their own webs hold them down

this crazy mountain air must get to me
i know you're never there but you're all i see
if wishes could be, i'd happily believe
that this breeze would bring you back to me

ALIENS

It is an outer world of mysteries
possible alien life
are the legends true?
do these mysteries have only logical explinations?
do these strange other life forms live among us?
why don't we know the answers?
is area 51 area a real place with actual others unknown to us?
these can and will be answered.
if you believe in them.
THEY ARE HERE....
