To Unlove You

I'm learning how
To unlove you

It hurts worse than loving you,
Knowing you don't love me back.

Abandoned

Submitted by Mary Beth Magee

She bobbed there in the gentle swell,
The little boat I knew so well.
The sail wrapped tight along the boom
Gave me a feeling of dark doom.
I saw no anchor chain hung down
To stop her, lest she run aground.
No one sat in her empty bow.
No hand controlled her keel just now.
A gentle breeze set her to rock.
How did she get loose from the dock?
As the breeze caused her to turn,
I spotted paint along her stern.
Rough letters where my name had been -
The words now looked like "Mortal Sin."
What had he done in dark of night?
Was he convicted by dawn's light?
Then in the reeds beside the dock…
What I saw gave me quite a shock.
A body, face down, on the lake,
Could it be him, for heaven's sake?
Please, no, I prayed and backed away.
What pushed him so, I cannot say.
I didn't dream that he would dare.
I only know I lost him there.

Neopoet Weekly 06/09/24 to 06/15/24 Winner!

This week’s winner is Lavender with the following poem

Winning Poem

Magic

Submitted by Lavender

A falling star settled on my rose,
a diamond dipped in velvet clothes.
I dared not touch the pure gift
sent from heaven, so swift,
but let it rest there
in such sweet air
and comply
to my
wish.

Neopoet Weelky 06/02/24 to 06/08/24 Winner!

This week’s contest winner is hippiemoon with following poem:

Archeology

By: hippiemoon

Years from now,
We will be dead and buried.
Your laugh nothing more than
A whisper in the wind,
A breeze carrying off dandelion wishes.

Our headstones will rest together,
Aging together, as we did in life.
Tears from our loved ones will mix with rain
And our memory will fade with the engravings.

And years from now,
We’re forgotten by everyone but the Earth.
They will dig our bodies up
And find our bones entwined in each other’s arms.

Something New

Rain rushes from the skies
Mixing with a single tear
The wind cuts through
Like every doubt, every fear

Lightning shatters my peace
Like the pieces of my mind
A distant thunderclap mocks
Of the girl I was and left behind

A tornado rages in my head
Demolishing my peace and joy
I plaster on a smile for you,
But it's just a tactic I employ

The fear paralyzes my heart
Yet I'm so tired of being afraid
It is time to get up and fight
Before my resolve starts to fade

My fingers curl around my sword
I lift it high, I've got my armor on
I bring it down with all my strength
Until the shattered pieces are gone

There is no fixing the girl I was
No use in buying time with glue
The only solution is to shatter her
And forge with fire Something New

writing while she watches over my shoulder

“three pages
down
and eight beers
to go. hmm…
i drink alone
because i sing
secrets…
three and a quarter pages
down
and seven beers to go.
Bitch.”

'what?
k, i'll try.'

Shattered Optimism

Fratricidal war ravaged our terrain
The budding heroic patriots died
Pipelines exploded, many were fried
Then flushed down the public drain

Horrors which were seen by warriors
In the melee for self determination
Also by victims of national damnation
Were the departed unsung saviors

Our struggle brought new songs
For freedom and independence
To secure our continued existence
We celebrated with flutes and gongs

Agitated Restlessness

An agitated restlessness fills me,
slowly, slowly, it gently kills me
I see the violence, I hear the cries
Why, oh, why
Do good things have to die?

They say at first there was darkness
then God filled the world with light
and that heaven is a real place
where there's no fear of night

They say we're made in God's image
They call us Humankind
They say we came to love the world
But we're mean, self-righteous, blind.

DeTHRONED

grids take
doth blood make
this scourge of fire
wreaking fire

trancending the madness
howls like night sirens
and then the eerie
silence
no dogs bark
as God watchs

generation full of scars
where nothing is bulletproof
for far

easy to trip on the empty
cartridges in the dark
dare make a sound
and be the mark

The Discipline,

Keep me earthbound
You are my gravity
Without you
I fly into empty
Space

Your love holds me
In this place
Like being tied
With soft gentle
Lace

Even when
I am far away
I can feel
the power of loves
Embrace

The distance
Is but a word
where ever I look
I only see your lovely
Face

The strength
Of your discipline
Has given me
Understanding of true
Grace

OLD HANDS

Let my gnarled hand enfold yours in mine
on this clear winter day so fine
and we'll traverse this wooded trail
just as we did when I was hale.

Even when the winds blow cold
as long as I have you to hold
my heart retains a well stoked fire
ready to kindle with desire.

We've been down so many trails together
too often in the worst of weather
on paths that were stoney and rough.
I'd think that you'd have had enough.

One Art

She lay beneath a barren tree
dead, exsiccated in an instant,
as the lake
that we once waded through
to reach her.

We attended the wake together
holding hands
and wanting to kiss
but not.

We each gave our sympathies
not with words, but strange dialogues
gazing upon her parched body,
close to each other.

After, you took me to the tree of life,
barren, but not dead:
still glistening
in such oppressive heat,
with life to come.

Confession

Sir, license and registration
Of course officer
let me get my documentation

You were going a hundred in an eighty
Well, officer let me explain
I found a new hobby as of lately

Now, I think you’re intoxicated
Officer, I must disagree
Someone had to be eliminated

Are you admitting to a crime
Well I suppose I am
It got too easy after the third time

Please step out of your car
Yes, let me open the trunk
Would you like her pieces from my jar?

barbers and bartenders

              barbers
     and bartenders
              talk
              to you
           not
                              at you

             letting you
                  let it
                     on out

        sometimes
                 I sob
                    and mewl
       for     a tug
                of an ear
       or     a shave
               of a fool

Justification(A Nonet)

Justification for ones life lived
apologies not forthcoming
what I am is where I've been
past lies dog my footsteps
aggression flows free
within these walls
must take heed
and find
peace
