Lost Love

By: Alex Tanner

Should I recall those blissful times
When we like climbing flowers entwined;
Our blossoms scented evenings air
As Love and Lust forsook our cares.

Your laugh was soft and gentle,
A butterflies wings in spring,
Dancing on the sunbeams
Enough to make me sing.

Eyes so bright they sparkled
Diamonds on moonlit snow;
Flashing hither and thither
To make my pulse race so.

We held each other gentle
Yet tight so not to break,
Though deep, our love could never last,
Different paths our lives would take.

For fleeting months we tarried,
Each time we met we knew
This may be the last time
For lovers hours are few.

If I love ten thousand women
Tis you I will recall;
You gave yourself so willing,
For your passion I did fall.

On black nights as the wind howls,
As I lie in a bed so cold,
Your soft voice echoes 'cross the years
To warm my lonely soul.

Next Exercise!!!! (heehee)

We may rue the hew of bitter sword
that is the anger we occasionally allow
to bruise our memory's weft and turn
with crimson stabs of quickened fury

Yet while the willing face of killing rage tears
at the ragged fraying arcs that are our souls
we stand atop the blackest summit of our ire
and scream mindless defiance at the world

Unscrambled brains

Unscrambled brains

A road hidden
Covered by dense trees
My eyes attempt to see
But only observing
Its natural green

The road is there
Right in front of me
I am not blind
And yet it is not
Plain to see

Is this the one said
Less traveled
By those who are free
In the end can the mystery
Be unraveled

This road
I take up then down
is the beaten path
I wonder
Am I just going  around

A treat for The Girls

A farmers work aint easy
It’s an ‘ard and lonely life
I never gets to town much
So its ‘ard to find a wife
I’m up at dawn most every morn
A milking an’ a feeding
Then afternoons I’m in the fields
A ‘oeing an’ a weeding
So when the sun goes down at night
The working day be done
I’ll go down to the sheep pen
Just to pick a pretty one
They sees me in my wellies
And they all begin to bleat
They knows that I am there to give,
Some special girl a treat

Sit

You’ve said your piece and I don’t agree
Your facts are wrong but you won’t care
Looking at me with that sinister stare

I’ve listened to your lies so let me speak
I’ve the answers you don’t want to hear
Seen this before, I await your false tear

Sit down
Shut up
And close that fucking mouth

Sit down
Shut up
And close your fucking mouth

My truth has been told and you don’t care
My facts are right and you won’t agree
It’s in front of your eyes but you refuse to see

Lead me

Let me breathe in your life,
live in your heart forever
Bathe in your soul and feed on your love

Take me away from this dark desolate world,
free me from these bonds, that strangle my limbs,
that tear my flesh

Lead me,
beyond this darkness
Lead me,
into your light

Teach me to walk and I shall find my way to you
Teach me to speak and I shall only speak of our love
Teach me to hear, so that I may listen to the beating of your heart

Drowsing to Fire

Drowsing to Fire

Waratah Nights

I sit in the dark, as far off
the scent of Waratah wafts
reminding me of you,

my mouth curves
a memory, as my face tilts
the moon, her red veils
run up my chest

faraway down the road
we may meet again
across a canyon of time,

our eyes will connect

I often wonder what yours
will dare tell me,
at the first dawning
will a ray of remembrance
burst through your iris

or will our words of anger
sour every glance,
turning those blue eyes
opaque

Tea Ceremony

i.

Life breathes
and takes this breath away

leaves the pi of distance
between fleeting moments

a rainbow arc hangs in the balance
whispering to my presence

You pour into me
Your love

I take another breath.

ii.

I fell in love with a poet
once,
rather I fell across his words

together
we formed a cross
to which I was nailed like a jewel fish,

silently, I took extreme measures
of my own,
I practiced austerity

and wrote poems under water.

iii.

Reggae Warrior

Sun drenched soldier,
born from the tears of slaves
In these songs of freedom is where my salvation lays

Lost within your rhythm,
trying to save my soul
Fighting for humanity,
fighting for us all

Giving a voice to the poor,
the hungry, the weak
Shouting at those demons,
let my people be

Bonds of hate bleed our earth
Open up your heart,
See what life is worth

Feel the spirit calling us to unite
Come together on this burning earth,
let us feel alright

Ear inside...

Ear inside…

Lost inside their ears are the dreams
they dressed for dance, but not to keep
an ear upon the wind may miss the
scurry of vole or even the meeting of
chance, for if there is but a draught
upon the ear I fear this could be a
message missed or the gentle
whisper of a lover waiting to
be kissed…
