Summer Image Prompt Challenge Winner!

The winning poem of the Summer Image Prompt Challenge is

Abandoned

Submitted by Mary Beth Magee

She bobbed there in the gentle swell,
The little boat I knew so well.
The sail wrapped tight along the boom
Gave me a feeling of dark doom.
I saw no anchor chain hung down
To stop her, lest she run aground.
No one sat in her empty bow.
No hand controlled her keel just now.
A gentle breeze set her to rock.
How did she get loose from the dock?
As the breeze caused her to turn,
I spotted paint along her stern.
Rough letters where my name had been -
The words now looked like "Mortal Sin."
What had he done in dark of night?
Was he convicted by dawn's light?
Then in the reeds beside the dock…
What I saw gave me quite a shock.
A body, face down, on the lake,
Could it be him, for heaven's sake?
Please, no, I prayed and backed away.
What pushed him so, I cannot say.
I didn't dream that he would dare.
I only know I lost him there.

Neopoet Weekly 06/09/24 to 06/15/24 Winner!

This week’s winner is Lavender with the following poem

Winning Poem

Magic

Submitted by Lavender

A falling star settled on my rose,
a diamond dipped in velvet clothes.
I dared not touch the pure gift
sent from heaven, so swift,
but let it rest there
in such sweet air
and comply
to my
wish.

Neopoet Weelky 06/02/24 to 06/08/24 Winner!

This week’s contest winner is hippiemoon with following poem:

Archeology

By: hippiemoon

Years from now,
We will be dead and buried.
Your laugh nothing more than
A whisper in the wind,
A breeze carrying off dandelion wishes.

Our headstones will rest together,
Aging together, as we did in life.
Tears from our loved ones will mix with rain
And our memory will fade with the engravings.

And years from now,
We’re forgotten by everyone but the Earth.
They will dig our bodies up
And find our bones entwined in each other’s arms.

Something New

Rain rushes from the skies
Mixing with a single tear
The wind cuts through
Like every doubt, every fear

Lightning shatters my peace
Like the pieces of my mind
A distant thunderclap mocks
Of the girl I was and left behind

A tornado rages in my head
Demolishing my peace and joy
I plaster on a smile for you,
But it's just a tactic I employ

The fear paralyzes my heart
Yet I'm so tired of being afraid
It is time to get up and fight
Before my resolve starts to fade

My fingers curl around my sword
I lift it high, I've got my armor on
I bring it down with all my strength
Until the shattered pieces are gone

There is no fixing the girl I was
No use in buying time with glue
The only solution is to shatter her
And forge with fire Something New

old feather

white dove feather
fell to sand

small wind gathered surf,
spraying faces
assembled there

clock ticked twice
died --
no more time

white dove feather
fell to sand
sun illumined
it fell

surf touched it
sand caressed it
ocean swallowed it

dove flew on --
old feather
anyway.

Impressions From A Distance

.
rock stars
a silly mess of men, by in large

divas
high strung
daredevils of emotional expression
...and tantrums

actors and comedians
hyper-active look-at-me-look-at-me's

dancers
strangly aloof
apparently trying to stay afloat
even when not a'dance

painters/artists
I have nothing to say of them
though I'll venture to guess
they are as flakey as the rest

and now,
for the last act of the show...

forks in the road

As I stumble across
the forgotten fork in the road
emotion threatens to overwhelm me.
Five friends long ago
we lost in that collision
my first real taste of things not to be.

And I remember how everyone said
(with after sight’s twenty-twenty vision)
if they’d taken the right instead of the left
just made a different decision
or had perhaps been ten seconds earlier or later
they’d still be alive today....

Creature

I'm a creature of many habits,
I defy definition, I refuse to be boxed in.
I'm unique , I'm quirky.

I'm a creature, I won't be told how to be.
You won't cage me.
I have autonomy .

I'm a creature, a member of humanity.
I live and breath,
And yet I reek of insanity.

I'm a creature, I'm free ,
I'm who ever I want to be,
I me

Photos Fade

Last night as I rummaged through
A box of memorabilia
My hand fell upon
An old photograph of you

How some things never change
Still holding the weight of the world
Upon those strong shoulders
While the sorrow reflects
In your eyes

A mystery
Without an end
An enigma
Never to be known

What was then to you
Is still now
Dismay and distain
Show in a furrowed brow

I slowly placed the photograph
Back in it’s rightful place
Along with the dust of old memories

When we first met, we were travelling on the same road
Same locations and destinations
Each time I touched your face my desire for you overflowed

When we first met, we were floating on the same cloud
Same destinations and locations
Each time I touched your face you made me feel so proud

(chorus)
I am not on the same page as you
Never was, never will be
A different page ,a different book
You'd clearly see it if you opened your eyes and looked

FALL SHOWER

A gently falling autumn rain
breaking a long dry spell,
bringing life to plants again
as waterways begin to swell.

The days henceforth won't be as warm
nor the woods so sere and dry.
Should the season hold true to form
'fore long peepers won't croak or cry.

Perhaps this front will bring a frost
or at least some cooler days
as the green from leaves is lost
and puddles gain an icy glaze.

RATS AND CATS

"RATS AND CATS"
Margaret Ann Waddicor 1st November 2010.

Rats and cats and cricket bats
thunder under beds
threads of curtains fraying
praying monks and ancient trunks
kangeroos and elephants

straws and reeds and chanted creeds
shouts and pouts and awesome deeds
sounds of rumbles children tumble
tummies up and bottoms down
rolling round and round the town
acting like a silly clown

Mankind

.

Mankind:

a whole lot of you and me's!

Mankind:

the most successful species of all
flying higher than the birds
diving deeper than the whale
scurrying around the planet
speedier than a cheetah chased gazelle
killing off all predators and
other inconvieniant species
( with disconcerting ease, I might add)

Mankind:

an Earth animal
absurd as a psychotic platypus
deranged as a Salvador Dali jig saw puzzle
still in the box

Mankind:

the stage of time

The Stage of Time

Waiting in the prison of time
For turnkey to unlock my cell--
Studying walls of cage I’m in,
Glittering alleys stretch before my
Tainted vision; with jaded eyes
I witness life of the world.

Gone now, innocent youth,
What follows innocence but
More of the same in
Different costume?
