Mum... You and I

By: Rula

Together we witnessed time ebbs and tides:

we went through ups, we went through downs,

yet luckily we got each other's sides,

you and I, you and I.

Together, unwillingly, we grew old,

with devestating wrinkles, and white hair.

We both raised families, yet we're still bold

You and I, you and I.

Together we laughed, together we cried:

I uplifted your spirits, you got my tears wiped,

we stayed together, side by side,

You and, I you and I.

Together we lived for worse and better,

until Alzheimer's stole you, my bank of love,

although you promised to stay forever

You and I, you and I.

My Gold

By Mr joghe

In whom I spent my old days and nights,

Who rocked me in my cradle;

And fed my pretty mouth with a spoon,

Did weep while I should weep.

How much will I pay

For the pain you’ve taken for me?

Who worked that jumper to keep me warm;

Treated me with diffidence and respect,

Her healthy arms always be my stay,

And always admired my prudent face that filled with laughter.

How much will I pay

For the pains you’ve taken for me?

Who tired me with apology for being tiresome,

And asked twenty questions and never waited for an answer.

My timidity struck her at the first sight;

When she taught me to expect something extraordinary.

How much will I pay

For the pains you’ve taken for me?

I find such a pleasure

In obeying her commands,

That I take care to observe;

Shall soon come to bless me.

How much will I pay

For the pains you’ve taken for me?

I vow, I thought so;

Never, as among queens and princesses

In her age; to be explicit,

I’ve kept very little company

In pretty smooth dialogues with her.

How much will I pay

For the pains you’ve taken for me?

Clean Sweep...

Her weak eyes could hardly see
I had to show her where to sign
if it hadn't been for me
it would have been blank...that dotted line

She doesn't need a vacuum
with a power-cord and more
to clean the threadbare carpet
covering her floor

It picks up all the cat-hair
with this attachment, don't you see
Of course, it will cost extra...
just a little fee

As I leave her cold apartment
I'm having no regret
I've sold more than all the others
and I've won our little bet

entering into the silence

i.

I will have none of it,
no, not even that,
I won't enter your private hell,
not even to save you
from dreams that came
to this.

There is a serpent lying in the grass
and he eats the light of day,
there are stars that sing,
hanging in the balance
breaking through the skull
of loneliness.

ii.

dis-assemblage

i am dis-assembling my life,
it makes perfect sense.
for ten years i’ve known it’s time to die

and so,
each day
i remove a little contact,
one less phone call,
no invitations,
more brusque replies,
even more brutality and abuse,
to those I love,
to let go.

then i will have to sort
all the stuff for the dump,
all the stuff for charity
all the books to be chosen from
by my friends,
which will be my wake.

Sacred Time

Time has kissed me,
rich in life unlooked-for,
cut free from pains
of strangled futures
I would have never had
until we met.

Time has bound me,
ties of intimacy,
sex and lust,
bonds of passion and desire,
chains of care
and aching wonder
on sleepless nights
spent asking why
of all endless choice
you could have made,
I was your's.

I tried to love you

I'm tired of the battering
You find flattering
My soul is torn
Wanting to be yours

No amount of hoping, or
Spilling my heart
Changes your motives, for
Taking me apart

So, I stand my ground
To sit around
While you walk away
This thanksgiving holiday

The cruise, I enjoyed
We should've bonded
But, you believe
In a dominate lead

I tried being submissive
Catering to your ego
You are so harsh, indecisive
Taking me down a cruel road

Lovers of tubes

Lover of tubes

He sat cross legged his long fingers
drawing conclusions from paper and ink,
meandering in thoughts well written by
people he will never meet. She on the other
hand knew of these people but would never
say, all she would be in his eyes was sweet.

SHARED DAY

Let's walk beneath a fall rainbow
which trembles in the autumn wind
before the bright leaves drop and go
signaling the season's end

Or we could drive past farmers' fields
of newly golden beans and corn
'ere combines gather up the yields
leaving the bare ground forlorn

Perhaps sit by a windy lake
and watch the waves roll to the shore
where cattails and bare willows quake
and pine trees whisper "nevermore"

There are fairies at the bottom of my garden

There are Fairies at the bottom of my garden
And they visit every evening, for a dance
They are lovely to behold and very welcome
I just wish they didn’t trample on my plants
Their favourite one appears to be the Salsa
They do it with such style and aplomb
Much better than last week when they were jivin’
It appeared they’d hit the garden with a bomb
So I do believe in Fairies, ‘cos I’ve seen them
And every night I watch them, in a trance
They are graceful and delightful and enchanting

Free Haiku

A delicate rose,

memories drifting.

Alas, November rain.

The Sun Bled Crimson Red--updated

THE SUN BLED CRIMSON RED

The sun bled crimson red
into the western seas
and fire blazed in the darkening skies
piercing wakes of fading sunlight
as the moon yellow pale broke the night.
icy Nordic waves rode on wings of fury
and the trees like skeletons danced
on gallows in the wind.
the fields lay fallow
the earth barren and still
and the noise of all living things
died in thuds of silence.
