SAIL AWAY

SAIL AWAY

Sail away dear lover, don’t look back
What we were and what we had, is gone
A while ago, perhaps as just two innocents
And love somehow summoned to appear
Then seeped deep into our souls and grew
But now is banished in unwilling separation
Yet the pain rushes in to fast fill the vacuum
Memories are now to be all that is left

For years, as if we were a single being
With shared hopes and feelings, reaching up
A future of mutual discovery beckoned
Yet despite happy years it had to end
So much gained and now so much lost
Who would not shudder at our demise
And share a wish for the miracle we seek

I am now diminished, as I sense, are you
I feel the hard unforgiving fist in my chest
And know that the chances are now small
Of our meeting in our remaining lifetimes
Yet once over, we will find each other again
With that retained magnetism still so strong

I stand here alone on this windswept cliff
Looking into the distance, far out to sea
Your ship now a mere dot on the horizon
But are you there looking forward or back
To a new unanticipated unknown future

But just as the horizon becomes a blur
Albeit memories I hope remain sharp
Ahead for each of us a different life
So far apart in body, but not in mind

I slowly turn to face the long walk home
Just my own footsteps, as it will now be
Gentle breezes try to comfort my sadness

But as the sunset gives way to dusk
The black of night echoes my soul

Thinking of you as you sail away

I felt it emotionally!
It' poignant, emotive, heart-rendering. When two lovers break away from each other it drops an internal wound in the mind. But I believe what goes around comes around.

Fine work indeed!
