I Am No Prophet
I Am No Prophet
The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufock
I am no prophet-and here's no great matter.
I have seen the moment of my
greatness flicker,
And I have seen the eternal Footman hold my coat
and snicker.
And in short i was afraid.
The Glose Poem
I see the world around me spin
On its axis,
Like I see the wind
Blowing leaves that
Rustle softly.
I am no prophet- and here's no great matter.
I, myself a creature made of clay,
Do a dance across the stage,
As i f in a Broadway play.
Carrying myself, as though a star.
I have seen my moment of greatness
flicker.
I do my bit part,
And take a bow,
Exiting stage left,
Without applause.
And I have seen the eternal Footman
Hold my coag, and snicker.
With curtains drawn,
And no encore called,
I turn to walk out double french doors,
To brave the boulevard in the rain.
And in short I was afraid.
