Working With Japanese Poetry Workshop

The "Working With Japanese Poetry" workshop will be discussing 4 forms of Japanese poetry. Haiku, Senyru, Tanka, and Renga.
This workshop will compare the definitions of these four and discuss their forms.

Haiku: is unrhymed poetry about nature and is seasonal. It is written with three lines of syllables 5/7/5 line count. www.shadowpoetry.com/resources/haiku/haiku.html

Senyru: also unrhymed poetry similar to Haiku in structure, but is about human nature, it is humorous or satirical. It is also written in 17 syllables and 3 line count. http://www.shadowpoetry.com/resources/haiku/haiku.html

Tanka: unrhymed poetry has 5 lines count. Syllables of 31 5/7/57/7 per lines. Tanka is usually written in two parts. the first 3 lines is part 1 and part 2 is the last 3 lines. www.shadowpoetry.com/resources/haiku/tanka.html

Renga: renga means linked together. It was found 700 hundred years ago by Japanese to encourage collaborative composition to poetry. Renga were often hundreds of line long. The favorite length of renga is 36 lines. www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/5788
