An Unfriendly Welcome

Welcome to custody
Where the constable’s a cunt to me
Not what life’s supposed to be
The system has no trust in me
Arrested for an illness
Leaves trust that is stillness
As the reaper hunts for me, life’s cold, full of chillness
Welcome to my cell, this is where I dwell
Its walls are six by six, it’s a living hell
Welcome to my room, where the lights are dim, it’s gloom
No windows and no pillows, you cannot see the moon
Welcome to this station, for the night here I’m stationed
Now I’m on probation, so I ask for a donation:
I need to be released, ask the piggy for the keys
Welcome to my life, ups and downs like the tide
Wrongs can’t be justified, cos people always lie
Welcome to this poem, like the tide, it is flowing
These words, and my life, will very quickly end
And just like my cell, it’s longevity’s not growing

arrested for an illness? seems to me that the judicial system is corrupt and ignorant to boot! I understand that addiction is an illness and a damned ruthless one. I used to be a speed-freak. I heard from my fellow travelers that zip was a bad one to kick. I went off it cold turkey. I was lucky, it "took" the first time. your poem is factual yet it also evokes an emotional response. (and a revulsion for the system) your poem tells a story with multiple aspects. I wish you the best of luck and endurance.

Sorry for the late response. Been drunk 24/7... What is zip, speed? I've done speed but never heard that term. Where you from, america? Cos never heard that in England.
