Under A Full Blood Moon

Under a Full Blood Moon

on the horizon
the sun was sinking low
creating a haze of muted color
which ran together slow.

the animals were restless
as they began their evening prowl,
they sensed a presence in the wood
long before they heard the howl...

at the forest edge,
a long-eared rabbit listening
twitching nose, poised for flight
almond-shaped eyes glistening.

just then the blood moon
reared it's ugly head,
a murder of crows took flight
shrieking for the dead.

languidly clouds drifted,
past it's sullen face.
denizens of the area
bolted for cover in great haste.

then a scene so grizzly,
a tortured man did cry.
shed skin replaced with hair
a curse upon him did lie.

his first transformation
was hard on body and soul
animal urges took over
all senses lost control.

running with the wind
ringing in his ears
such pleasure, like he never knew
forgetting trouble and fears.

Exquisite piece! Reading works of literary luminary like Candlewitch is getting wisdom from her mastery!
