Tales Of Ancient Greece : Free

The prison door flew open,
As Eleftheros was shoved in,
Falling hard onto the cold floor,
Accused of three murders,
And sentenced to death by hanging,
But before he could even get up,
He was already planning his escape,

Looking around he noticed,
That sitting on a filthy pile of straw,
Was an old man,
With long greasy hair,
And a twinge of crazy in his eyes,
"We're free!"
He suddenly exclaimed,
To Eleftheros' annoyance,

There were four weeks to his execution date,
And he had no time to deal with his cellmate,
So he plotted and tried,
Week after week,
To dig his way out,
To offer bribes to the guards,
But nothing worked,

All the while,
His senile companion would yell "we're free,"
And pull at his lice infested hair and beard,
"Shut up would you!"
He finally shouted at him,

But the old man continued on,
Chuckling and dancing in madness,
Until Eleftheros could take it no more,
And had his hands around the poor man's neck,
Choking the life out of him,

"I'll free you old man,
Forever,"
The guards thankfully noticed the commotion,
And saved the old man just in time,
"Come on now,
To the gallows with you,
Your time is up,"
One of the guards said gruffly,

And as he was dragged away,
Fighting and screaming,
He saw the old man reach inside the rags that he wore as clothes,
And pull out a key,
The one to the cell,
As he mouthed the words "We're free."
