Solstice Inside

Attached to chilly winter air
My deepening, dark, and dread despair
Sets upon me sure and slow
Casts questions over all I know

Work is slow, it’s warm inside
Retreat into myself, I hide
I’ve my paintbrush and my pen
Sustain me until spring again

The chambers of self love will wane
The heart will argue with the brain
Never listen, it’s just noise
Steal your peace and rob your joys

Everyday becomes a fight
I strive to stoke my inner light
Until the light returns to earth
Carries it’s verdant rebirth

This is the winter of my heart
Which gives rise to a new start
Though the earth is dark and cold
The light and warmth live in my soul

wow,,
the flow is really good here, and i can relate to it on a personal level, the title is very fitting aswell! your use of words feels like an oil painting, in a way, or a rolling ball, if that makes sense

Hello, Tim,
Wonderful title and relatable theme. I was struck by "The Winter of My Heart." What a lovely thought which says it all. (I think there is a separate poem in that thought.) I always keep in mind that after December 21, though it just be a few minutes, we gain daylight! That seems to sustain a little hope. I'm glad your amazing gifts and talents help ease this time.
Take care,
L

A wonderfully thoughtful and charming pace. Lavender was absolutely right by saying 'What a lovely thought which says it all'. I can envisage a great title of another piece here! Aesthetic through artistic expression.
