So it Goes

Kurt Vonnegut shined
his radiance in dark wit
hapless twists of fate

To see human kind
with journalistic reproach
and stark opacity

Entombed within the
curled cover of paperback
lie secrets in wait

Depictions once typed
through smoke and whiskey’s thick haze
a burning city

You were there of course
as a prisoner of war
in your slaughter house

In make shift barracks
subterranean chamber
A death factory

Withstood fire bombs
but compelled to excavate
the carnage and slag

Eastern allies break
your bondage to attrition
forced onto your soul

You then return home
try to tell your sad story
to all of the world

It takes many years
to process all you have seen
so much errant death

What else to do but
joke about, and smile and laugh
I quote; So it goes

I was struck dumb, at your choice of Vonnegut and his writings. [Not an easy task, striking me dumb]. Indeed, your knowledge of his trials and aberrant sense of humor, show you to be a prolific reader, with extremely good taste! To be a true Sci-Fi buff, you must read Kurt Vonnegut. I enjoyed this much! BTW, it should be [shone], not [shined]. ~ Geezer.

This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

The poem has dark undertone which often goes unnoticed if not read carefully.

Excellent piece!

"By virtue of creativity, my literary genre is poetry".
