Sisyphus 2

And what was her sin
But to lose her senses
For a man that was not her husband

And the heart is not
A keepsake

And Sisyphus being Sisyphus
Kept his peace

2

A woman is not just a body

The scales of your eyes
Pitch fires
About the gates of my heart

And blend my faith
With yours

My rock
My permanent question

To die
And to rise
From the vault
Of our confessional

3

Then he turns his head
Covertly
To the mathematics of pigeons courting

4

Isn’t the rain beautiful
Today

All you want to do is talk
Must we confound the mind
With thought

Just lie beside me
On the mat
Beneath the window

Forget the world
Of morning
Would you turn a princess
From your bed

Call me the hexagon
A native
From the land of slaves

5

Drink the opium
Of my body
And be lost

Beatrice will lead you home
Across the bridge
Of stars

The Earth may be
A forest of crosses
And Eden a garden
Unto herself

La di da di da
I’m not afraid to die

Drink the opium
Of my body

That sold me on the whole thing.

I am lost in this I've come back to it three times, I am out and I am reading while I'm waiting. I am so taken with this. My God it has its own presence.

I wanted you to know I have been here and I will return and edit this comment tonight. It will be more detailed. Wow.

The whole thing is just breath-taking but for me these lines are the opium that I want to drink of poetry. I did say I'd be back, I just immersed myself in this again and again and yeah, these lines sigh,

Drink the opium
Of my body
And be lost

Beatrice will lead you home
Across the bridge
Of stars

The Earth may be
A forest of crosses
And Eden a garden
Unto herself

La di da di da
I’m not afraid to die

that end line, just pure brilliance!

love and hugs Jayne xox

thanks to you, I have been reading up on Sisyphus and Camus. especially the "Myth Of Sisyphus" the philosophical essay. On Nihilism and how it compares to different time periods in my own history.
I cannot choose favorite lines from your poem, as they are all significant. on the whole, I am blown away by the artful whole of this piece. once again you amaze me!

Dearest John
Thanks for the chance to read this piece as I see it and you know me by now sometimes I see things in my own weird way sometimes , the first verse asks a question as to the sin involved in falling for a man not ones husband , Id be of the opinion that there are circs where no sin should be attached or guilt felt for such events like this happening , hearts are not keepsakes to be collected first verse asks a question as to the sin involved in falling for a man not ones husband , Id be of the opinion that there are circs where no sin should be attached or guilt felt for such events like this happening , hearts are not keepsakes to be collected as momentos of events or happenings as we go through life .Sisyphus being Sisyphus is steadfast in his beliefs doesnt interfere and keeps the peace stoical in the face of his adversary the rock he had to keep rolling up the hill everytime it just rolled back down again and again and again

The second verse as I see it is a homage to the female , starting with what a woman merely is not and going on to give series accolades to the ladies with the respect felt for women and how woman is the rock and the mantle the strength and the cover protector and to die with her is to rise through eternity.,

The short third verse may be a reference to the nodding head of a pigeon as he courts and the fact that these birds are intelligent and can do mathematics ,I know dearest poet you will enlighten me please

The 4th stanza seems to say just go for it today see the little things and dont worry about tomorrow take the woman to bed and get lost in the drug of love , Beatrice Im presuming is ref to Dantes muse the woman he loved from childhood rarely saw in adulthood who died at 24 yrs of age but yet his deep love for her inspired some of his most famous poems Vita Nova and Divine Comedy , a woman who can bring you to Eden , having all that joy with a woman , death loses its frightening aspect ladidadida ,

In summary I have enjoyed reading a love poem that gave me a positive vibe in what was being said , the way women are described , the wish to just live and love simply , enjoy the little things and if the love is right and the lover can take one to Eden drugged on opium of the body then who wouldnt mind that death, lead there by the perfect muse .

Thank you inviting me to read this. Your artistry and poetic sensitive soul and heart pour into your words , painting images of concrete and ethereal notions equally effectively as always .
I hope you my dear poet and friend do realise how your word can touch hearts and minds and thats how I look poems and this piece as always ticks those boxes beautifully , I float on your poetry into your words and worlds where love lives and can be felt as you knit your ideas around the premise that love is at the centre of the universe .its not reading its experiencing and thats the way I like it .
Editing of this rant as always an option as I said by brain may not have dug deep today but I , loved it as I read and understood your poem .
Thank you dearest J

Amazing.

Correct in all elements except the mathematics of pigeons courting refers to Sisyphus’ analytical mind as he views the ballet of the urban creature he sees a formulaic pattern in everything in God’s perfect universe. Of course love is at the centre of all things and the nature of sin is written in the patterns of human weakness which can be ultimately forgiven. Love identifies that we are all culpable creatures all susceptible to mistakes in life and the old adage alls fair in love and war. Thanks for reading and understanding me better than anyone my dear precious friend of friends love John xxx
