Seasonal

SEASONAL

So bright-eyed and unashamedly young
Spring emerges from winter’s slumber
Pushing up hard through cold wet earth
To breathe in the cool and fragrant air
Replacing with greenery what was bare
A quickened heartbeat for all its worth
The year now certainly has its number
As soft melodies of hope are now sung

Summer seen to laze in midday heat
With warmth that permeates the skin
Smiling as jollity and revels still amuse
Yet knowing that its time will be done
Respecting its friendship with the sun
A legacy that it will have to choose
As the next season is due to begin
The taste of fruits plump and sweet

Autumn is a favourite with so many
Gentle and mature, as it ambles past
A final generosity is left unspoken
Resting comfortably in anticipation
With nature’s modest preparation
Bounteous harvests as one last token
Reddening leaves now falling fast
A creative muse, as good as any

The rarely welcomed winter’s here
Most shiver, wishing it to be ended
Yet such pause has its good points
New Year celebrated as a new start
Four seasons’ strong beating heart
Excuses for ignoring stiffened joints
Chances for fences to be mended
A shame that so few shed a tear

Hello, Twizzle,
You've captured the spirit of each season: the lively energy of spring, the cordial companionship of summer, the generosity of autumn, and the "pause" and repose of winter. What fantastic rhyme, too! It somehow leads all the thoughts toward the center of each stanza.
Thank you,
L
