Respect for Women

Her hands tremble and her heart leaps;
With eyes ghastly staring into space;
Watching her reflection in the mirror;
A black eye, a swollen lip, a broken arm;
“Oh, not again, not again” were the cry of her words!
Stop! Listen! someone hear my plea! Protect me!
A choke-up world, her story untold;
With scars, that haunt the children of the world;
A dying soul burnt into ashes as man kills wife;
Yet, another life!
“Oh, not again, not again” were the cry of her words!

Immortality comes from child bearing;
Childbearing comes from a woman;
A woman’s womb created the future;
It is the right to protect our treasure;
Especially one who creates that future.
How do we protect this treasure?
For it is only the woman to give true companionship;
So why must we abuse this God’s given gift?
Is it only destruction to have them in a box?
Laying stiff or crying and pleading not to be
Emotionally adrift!

A shackled love, name-calling;
“Stupid” “Ugly” “fat” OR “it’s all your fault”
A distraught love, to be snatched for lust;
Such emotional pain to feel such disdain;
My lips are sealed despite this scene
Who will come to her rescue?
“Oh, not again, not again” were the cry of her words!
The empty cupboards, the crying baby!
The pangs of hunger rise like the sea in her stomach;
The fear of losing her sanity as a mother;
The voice echo, be strong for your children stay alive, stand up for others
I heard the screams of women begging for freedom;
“Oh, not again, not again” were the cry of her words!

Men of this world, you must have control;
Or is it to exert power by being abusive or mean;
Set an example for children good Sir;
Let our love and passion not be a blur;
A Gentlemen, Monsieur, great we must be;
Let our women's energetic spirit be full of glee!
Sometimes a mother, a sister, a wife, a family or friend;
Men, respect all women.
Respect all women and don’t condemn,
Commend, defend, depend!
Don’t offend!
And let’s love our women
Until your end.

Embrace me, hold my hands and just love me;
Love me for who I am, a woman, a mother, a rare soul;
That bear forth fruit from thy womb;
To cherish, to laugh, to touch and mould!
Do I not have the freedom to live in peace?
This light has gone the darkness crept back in;
“Oh, not again, not again” were the cry of her words!
Women are so beautiful in all aspects of life;
Let us not be too late to realize;
Being around you is paradise;
Respect all women for they are the fountain of life!

Indeed. As a man I am now and have ever been appalled by the behavior of my male peers around women. Thanks for calling this behavior pattern out. You know I love how you write as I’ve told you. Introspection turned poetry is high up on the self awareness ladder.

I feel that your poetry is very important and educational. some men dominate and abuse just because they can get away with it. I call them cowards! keep writing!

* hugs, Cat

p.s.
I had a mother who was very abusive...she used hit my Dad with all sorts of heavy objects, such as lamps and frying pans. he held to the code he was raised by and didn't hit woman. finally she drove him away. then she started her abuse on me.

Candlewitch, thank you for taking the time to read my poem, your comments were greatly appreciated. Always a pleasure hearing from you. I can resonate with the child abuse treatment from your mom, I have also undergone such from my stepmother.
