REAKDOWN

Gliding towards the destruction
That’s written in on my small card
I wonder who brought me to this ball
And why is it I wear no corsage.

Waltzing around the disaster
That the band is tuning up to play
I try to remember the fox trot
In the wan hope of dancing away.

The band is at rest but the music still rings
In my ears as well as in my mind
Though I dip and twirl just as fast as I can
I’m always a measure behind.

My slippers are flimsy, the fabric gives way
And I am suddenly in my bare feet.
Encumbered by tatters of satin and buckles
I no longer keep to the beat.

How long can I get them to let me remain here.
How long can I stretch out my stay.
How short was my moment of fame on the dance floor
Before I am taken away.

In the wan hope…

Excellent usage of that word “wan” it’s uncommon and appropriate.

welcome to Neopoet...is this your first poem posted here? it is wonderful. (I was wondering if the title is a typo? should it be; Breakdown?)
my favorite lines are:

How long can I get them to let me remain here.
How long can I stretch out my stay.
How short was my moment of fame on the dance floor
Before I am taken away.

it speaks to me of my own insecurities.

keep writing and posting.

*hugs, Cat
