Psychosis (In The Land Of Chaos)

I live in the land of chaos.
My mind has a mind of its own.
I struggle with normal situations,
Relationships are always unknown.

Psychosis, it’s called, so I’m told.
When you hear and see things not there.
Some call it clairaudience, clairvoyance,
But most are blissfully unaware.

Some might say that I’m crazy,
That’s something that I’ll always fear.
I know what’s real and what’s not but
I see what I see and hear what I hear.

I can speak freely about my thoughts.
On paper, with pen, unchained.
But explaining how I live my life
Makes me feel restrained.

How can I share my life with you?
Would you believe me if I did?
Maybe just half-truths and white lies.
Never the whole truth, heaven forbid

you see the real me and run.

Thank you, dear poet. While I'm still navigating the true nature of this diagnosis, I've finally found a medication that works for me and, with the help of writing and my therapist, I have been able to cope with it quite well. Thank you for your kind words.

A WISE MAN ONCE SAID BASICALLY THAT THEY, BEING SOCIETY IN GENERAL, SEND US OUT WITH ONLY A BUTTER KNIFE TO CUT DOWN TREES. WITH THE SAME EXPECTATIONS THEY HAVE FOR THEMSELVES.THEN HE QUIT HIS JOB AND WENT BEGGING FOR A LOAF OF BREAD. THIS LIFE IS SIMPLY A DRAMA AND CAN BE A VERY MONOTENOUS AND PAINFUL ONE AT THAT, BUT I HOPE AND PRAY THAT YOUR GIFTS OF WRITING AND EMPATHY. WILL HELP YOU AND OTHERS LIKE OURSELVES AS WELL AS THOSE UNLIKE US NOT TO ENDURE THE SAME DEGREE OF SUFFERING. "ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE"! I REALLY LIKED THIS, THANKS. (AND BY THE WAY I TOTALLY GET IT!

I'm glad you liked the poem; and thank you for your words of encouragement. I've always loved the saying "I'll cut down a tree with a butter knife before I care about what people think about me." I'm sorry that you understand what this poem is about but I hope that you can use your gifts of writing as well.

Thank you, dear poet.

It sums up one of the many aspects of mental illness. A strong and brave write that I can relate to. Great job

I don’t have much experience with this particular mental illness. It’s got to be difficult to manage and people will always struggle to understand or just simply turn the other way, unfortunately. You are very aware of the behaviors and I think that’s the most important thing. The poem is an indication that you want to manage this to the best of your ability and I think that there are people out there who understand your condition and have the patience in their heart. I know it seems far away sometimes but from an outside perspective I think your doing ok.

You are writing this beautiful raw poetry and telling the world how you feel and I adore you for it.

Tim

Thank you very much, Tim. With medication, my therapist, and writing, I have been able to cope with this quite well. I was hesitant to write about it at all but I felt that it deserved a place in my collection of poems. I appreciate your feedback!

My best friend liked your poem too. He said that it resonates with him. He is a very brave and honest soul and this poem I feel really helped him. Thank you for sharing with us. We both needed this validation in a world full of mentally ill people who don't believe in it.

Thanks for sharing my poem and I'm glad you both liked it. I'm happy to use my poetry to help others feel validated.

Some say only those who are slightly crazy ever become good writers. I hope this isn't so because you don't seem crazy to me just introspective. Very good poem

Thank you, Scribbler. In another world, I believe the saying is "we're all mad here." Maybe its possible to be a little crazy and introspective at the same time.
Thanks for your feedback!
