a poem for you

I said I would write a poem for you
And you said that’d be nice
But I’ve thought,
And thought some more
And walked the room till my heart grew sore
I sat with my head on the floor
And squeezed the sides of my nose
And watched the words dribble
And questioned who we are
When you say you don’t need me
And I say how that shouldn’t be true
But true to you, who am I if not needed
And this love poem isn’t needed
but I feel needed
As a pillow for your sorrows
The ones I swallow with need,
In gulps, I save the rest for fainter days
The only poem I can write for you
Is one of missing smiles
And sad eyes and willing arms and an endless ladder to the storm
I would say sorry for the lack of love

I say sorry for the lack of love

I dare say, I would write a poem for you
But a confession
Is much sweeter

Hello, Killer Bee,
A mixture of sentiments here. So interesting that about midway through, the poem is referred to as a love poem. Such compelling, endearing language throughout, and a very poignant, strong ending.
Thank you,
L

A sad love poem for her! Emotive! Beautifully penned!

Well you got me a little misty eyed there. Good line. I think we all miss childhood bliss. Nice job.
