Observed by Aliens

Observed by Aliens

If aliens could watch us, and let's assume this vain thought:
That we are worth watching like stocks to be bought
What would they think, and then what would they do
With a planet called Earth, that's so miniscule?

They would see a race that is cursed by the evolutionary mind
Determined to thrive but kills its own kind
Paradoxes like this are bound to astound
An alien race by which we've been found

Driving a car to the climate change board
Actions like this is why we are floored
Drive past a man who sold his house to get high
And ended up on the floor with only a sign

On the laws of the land, puzzling at least:
Execution for murder, or life no release
An eye for an eye from a very old book
The poorly educated believe and others mistook

They would see different religions wherever they looked
Each with its own very old book
If they chanced upon land that escaped 'God's' grip,
They'd see telescopes and silicon
And Elon Musk's Star ship

Witnessing our progress, a species with dreams,
We may escape lightly from the alien machine
Whilst searching for life when being observed
Are we destroying or improving life here on Earth

I often wonder what an alien race would think of the T.V. commercials
that they might intercept, after the long journey to the far reaches of our galaxy?
They might take our T.V. shows for reality and that we have many super-heroes,
running around saving people and gun battles all over the place.
[Well, the gun battles are real anyway]. Yes, I think they would be befuddled
by the contradictions in our societies. You have written a good poem, that has
a great societal message and used good language, rhyme and near-rhyme.
I would maybe drop the fourth stanza because of the obvious sameness to the one
before it. [Both in content and rhyme]. The rhythm is just a tad ragged,
but not terribly. ~ Geezer.

It's an interesting thought, re shows. If they happened to see the superheroes ones, then they may well fly back and not test us. But chances are slim. More likely to see Kim Kardashian and then land! There is most likely intelligent life out there. So exciting. But I find this universe terrifying. Fear of the unknown. But also amazing. One day we will be going to other planets probably and doing same thing as these fictional aliens. But I think we would be kind, for want of a better word, cos we are human. On the other hand, we our destroying our planet, so maybe, why not do the same to others.

that by the time we reach out into space to touch another planet, we will have learned by then, that we do much better if we all get along; a sort of kumbaya kind of thing, ya know? However, we've had a couple of thousand years, to do it and...
I was also hoping that I would live long enough to see us contact other life out there, but the way it looks, they don't want anything to do with us yet. I don't believe that they want to destroy us, if they wanted that, they could have done it already! Thanks for the food for thought, ~ Geezer.
