MR. BUTLE
Mr. Butle was an older guy.
He'd hardly ever smile,
head always bowed and stature slumped,
most of his words were full of bile,
Yet everyone thought well of him,
he had that valued "Midas touch"
so most overlooked his grumpy ways,
his grumbles, frowns and such.
His wife always dressed to the hilt.
For an older lady she looked good
yet her smile seemed somehow cold
as she walked about the neighborhood.
If Butle laughed, well just a glance
from her would put him in his place.
(respectable and fun don't mix)
her presence kept joy from his face.
Then she grew sick and became dead.
How would he get by without her?
Some said he'd join her pretty soon
a sentiment with which all would concur.
I saw old Butle a week later
walking tall and fancy free.
All those frown lines now reversed
smiling at everyone he'd see.
Mr. Butle was an older guy.
Joy came upon him late in life
for happiness can seldom grow
in the shadow of a shrewish wife.

What comedy!
A chuckle indeed.. yet with some uneasy imagery in the build up. I like the name. it rolls off the tongue
'Then she grew sick and became dead.' Haha hehe.. woa!
Thanks for sharing a laugh, and true observation about coupling.

Hi david
I had to alter poor Mr. Butle's name a tiny bit to be sure that he wouldn't be identified as the real person on whom this was based lol. I'm glad you got a smile from this but I doubt it was as big as his was once his wife went away . Appreciate the visit..........stan

Was this about the man I used to know, his name was "Steven" and his second name was "Usama" we always thought his second name was fake but he insisted on it being true.
So we use to call him subtle, as this was the last thing he was, I am so glad that since his wife's demise he is top form and now is written about with such a happy flair, thank you for the memory.
Take care young man and hope but for fortune you never have to ride that ride lol,
Yours being Subtle, Sparrow

Hey Ian
This was about a guy I knew years ago who lived nearby. And you know I usually write what I know. I never saw before or since such a positive transformation in such a short time as in Mr. Butle went through after his wife died lol............stan

Yes we shall meander through life's changes.
There we know we can be at rest with the beauty of all things.
