MLK, MMXII

You couldn't possibly invent history,
no toe can get a foothold around an
idea whose time has come.

I tell you the honest truth, it wasn't Professor
Plum in the drawing room with the smoking
gun, it was DNA that committed the crime
and made the difference that originated
all children of a lessor God committing the
sin of skin.

The march goes on to be civil and not buy
salt from the merchants of oppression. I
thought I heard the God of Love speaking
in tongues--Martin, Gandhi, Jesus, a bloodless
revolution begins with revelation, you its sacrifice.

You, that carve a new path from old translations, speak
again. Tear down these walls
between us. Draw deep from the well
of freedom. This is America, but is she
the promised land? Like Jerusalem, a divided land?

"He who has ears to hear, let him hear." Let the people go,
freed from the tyranny of lies, unmanacled by courage and its
steep uphill battle just to plant a mountain.

Last few words:
Sharing this day with *you*. ~A

Another Pearl is Found

The hatless people have arrived.
No way to tell what they do
for a living. They are rolling up
their sleeves and digging in the air.
Cold lines have been crossed,
someone must be the lead singer in a one-man
band. The powerful rich have been acting
without poetic license far too long.

Pete, Arlo, Bill, you are here again and we sing
your protest songs.

I am and never was a great fan of MLK but at least during a time when many were calling for armed revolution, he was calling for peaceful protest. I would much prefer that there be a black leaders appreciation day (similar to presidents day) so that the contributions of other black leaders would also be recognized not just King's. But nobody asked me lol. This comment is not intended to start a frakus but rather as a reminder that many others are also responsible for the end of the Jim Crow days.........stan

No worry Stan, no fracas. Any movement starts with a leader. The movement started with Rosa Parks, and MLK led many good people.

The last acceptable discrimination is money and what happens in the bedroom, though less so.
