Lying In the Bed You Made

Stab me in my heart, not my back. Then when you watch me take my last breath, have the courage to say goodbye, before the cold words last spoken are the last words that I hear before my eyes close and my wound opens.

Then, when you see me fall, catch my lifeless body, lost of all purpose, and tell me that, before my time of death, I wasn’t completely worthless.

At my visitation, pay your respects towards the debt of all my efforts that were handed to you without expectations of appreciation or reciprocation.

Then, close my casket using the closure that I so desperately yearned for, searching for an understanding that kept me from sleeping, until I laid down for bed, one last time.

Bury me, unlike the way I attempted to bury you. Filling my empty bottle back up with the love that I swallowed, night after night, until numbness overtook sorrow.

Then, when you’re empty and I’m paid back in full, wait with me while every last emotion you drained from me, fills my spirit full.

After I’m gone, and time passes by, speak highly of my name, with the same grace and dignity that I spoke of yours, even after I stopped believing it.

Honor me for the selflessness I exemplified, through care and respect you lacked, because you were too selfish to leave my body and give my soul back.

Finally, when it’s all said and done, I hope the time you spent keeping me hanging on, was worth all the confusion and pain, and worth the time I’ll spend, lying in the bed you made.

The only critique I have here is format. I’m reading a very rhythmic poem that rhymes but the stanzas aren’t formed. This will happen to me for instance if I copy and paste from the “notes” app on my iPhone. Hop back in there and hit edit and see if you can line it up nice for us.

The writing itself is excellent. Can’t wait to read the other of the two.

Please do as Rosewood suggests. I also want to see what you have. It looks as though you have written some good stuff here. ~ Geezer.
